Job Description

About this opportunity

Based at Pact Packaging Hamilton and reporting to the Site Business Unit Manager, the Maintenance Manager will lead the site maintenance function, ensuring a safe, reliable, and cost-effective engineering service that supports operational performance and continuous improvement.

This is a key leadership role focused on driving the transition from reactive to preventative and predictive maintenance. You'll improve asset reliability, reduce downtime and maintenance costs, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and develop a high-performing maintenance team that supports operational excellence across the site.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead a safe and compliant maintenance function by ensuring engineering activities align with health, safety, quality, environmental, food safety, and regulatory requirements, including contractor management and permit-to-work systems.
  • Develop and execute preventative and predictive maintenance strategies through MEX and maintenance planning processes to maximise asset reliability, equipment performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive reliability improvements across manufacturing equipment, tooling, utilities, and infrastructure by reducing unplanned downtime, leading root cause investigations, and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Manage site services, buildings, infrastructure, and statutory compliance requirements to ensure the ongoing reliability, safety, and performance of critical plant and utility systems.
  • Oversee engineering procurement, contractors, critical spares, and maintenance budgets to deliver cost-effective outcomes while maintaining safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement and capital projects, including equipment upgrades, process improvements, and reliability initiatives that enhance manufacturing performance and long-term asset value.
  • Provide strong leadership, coaching, and development for the maintenance team while fostering a collaborative, proactive culture that supports operational excellence and delivers measurable business outcomes.

Your skills and experience:

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Proven technical maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environment, with the ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Reliability Engineering, or Business would be highly regarded. Current EWRB EAS-EST accreditation, or a willingness to obtain it, would be advantageous.
  • Strong expertise in maintenance and reliability practices, including preventive and predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, failure elimination, asset reliability improvement, and critical spares management.
  • Experience managing maintenance planning systems and CMMS platforms such as MEX, SAP, or similar, with the ability to optimise asset performance and operational efficiency.
  • Sound technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, material handling, and site utility assets.
  • Commercial experience in budgeting, procurement, supplier and contractor management, and maintenance cost control.
  • Strong communication, planning, analytical, and stakeholder management skills, supported by experience applying lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving methodologies.
