API Connects is a New Zealand-owned and managed consulting firm headquartered in Auckland. We help organisations with integration, DevOps, cloud, data and AI automation, and full-stack development.

We're looking for an experienced Integration Engineer for one of our clients. You'll work with their in-house development team on the integration layer between their core business platform and a range of third-party systems — reviewing what exists today, identifying what needs to change, and building it.

What you'll do

• Review existing integrations between the client's core system and third-party services, and recommend improvements
• Design and build integrations with ERP, CRM, accounting and productivity platforms
• Work with REST and SOAP APIs, webhooks, OAuth and modern authentication patterns
• Make sure integrations sit on the right API tiers, are correctly registered with providers, and are built to scale
• Work closely with the in-house dev team — a lot of this role is research, discussion and clear recommendations, not just coding
• Document what you build and hand it over cleanly

What we're looking for

• 5+ years' total experience in the integration space
• Experience with an integration platform — MuleSoft, Boomi, Kong, WSO2, Azure API Management, Apigee or similar
• Or equivalent experience building custom middleware and cloud-native / serverless integrations (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions)
• Hands-on integration experience with ERP, CRM, accounting or business management systems
• Strong API skills — REST, JSON, SOAP/XML, OAuth 2.0, webhooks
• Solid database experience, particularly PostgreSQL
• Able to work independently, read unfamiliar systems and make pragmatic recommendations
• Must have the right to work in New Zealand

Nice to have

• Experience integrating with Google Workspace, accounting platforms (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks) or similar SaaS APIs
• Exposure to legacy codebases and the patience to work around them
• API security and governance experience

Pay: $80,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
