Lead the future of Agile delivery at Auckland Council.
Are you an experienced people leader with a passion for Agile delivery, coaching, and building high-performing teams? Auckland Council is seeking a Practice Manager – Scrum Master to lead our Scrum Master practice and help shape how technology delivery is enabled across one of New Zealand's largest and most complex organisations.
Reporting to the Head of Delivery, this leadership role combines people management, capability development, and Agile excellence. You will be responsible for nurturing a community of Scrum Masters, driving professional growth, embedding best practices, and ensuring our teams have the support they need to deliver meaningful outcomes for Aucklanders.
He kōrero mōu: About the role
As Practice Manager – Scrum Master, you will lead and develop a team of Scrum Masters while establishing and evolving a centre of excellence for Agile delivery practices. You will work closely with Agile Release Trains (ARTs), delivery leaders, and technology teams to ensure consistent, effective, and scalable Agile ways of working.
This role is critical in developing capability, attracting and retaining talent, and creating an environment where teams can continuously improve and deliver their best work.

In this role, you will:
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of Scrum Masters.
- Develop and implement the strategy and vision for the Scrum Master practice.
- Drive continuous improvement of Agile and Scrum practices across teams and ARTs.
- Support capability development, succession planning, and career growth for practice members.
- Partner with delivery leaders to ensure effective allocation of Scrum Master resources.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators related to Agile delivery and team effectiveness.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation across the practice.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and talent development initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to organisational standards, governance frameworks, and delivery best practices.

- Extensive experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong background in Agile delivery, Scrum, and modern technology environments.
- Proven experience coaching Scrum Masters, Agile teams, and delivery leaders.

- Experience working within large, complex delivery environments and managing competing priorities.
