Beware offshoring
Lead Engineer (Former Employee) –  Palo Alto, CA22 February 2018
I very much enjoyed my time at VMware - good quality people doing good quality work. But VMware seems to be in the process of moving as many jobs offshore as possible, apparently to improve profit margins. It may not be a good choice for those wishing to work in the U.S.

Marketing was a great place to work
Associate Copywriter/Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Pleasant Grove, UT14 February 2018
VMware was a great place to work. The marketing team and culture was collaborative and laid-back with a communal great work ethic. Management was supportive and delegative, allowing employees to do what we were best at and contribute to the overall success of the team.

Senior Engineering Manager (Current Employee) –  Palo Alto, CA8 February 2018
It says I have to write a minimum of 150 characters, so I'm writing at least that many to satisfy that requirement. Write a silly requirement. Get silly stuff.

Senior MTS Graphics Software Quality Engineer (Former Employee) –  Palo Alto, CA6 February 2018
Productive and fun place to work with great people. VMware is on the cutting edge of technology when I joined and is still innovating today to bring private and public cloud management together.

Great Company
Marketing Manager (Former Employee) –  Milton Keynes5 February 2018
I am not sure how long VMware has left in Milton Keynes, but until it moves on they're probably the best employers in the city.

Top salary offerings and extremely good benefits package is very appealing, but the job security element especially in the MK office is very daunting.

Middle management severely lacking good leadership skills
Consulting Architect (Current Employee) –  Remote3 February 2018
Company must have grown too fast over the years. Good'ol boy network above the individual contributor level. If you can do your job well and stay out of the politics, you're good, but it doesn't mean that you're free from layoffs. They will cut you for no logical reason, even if you're in the middle of a billable project. The Dell influence on this company has not been great. Would be best if they break free from the Dell albatross around their necks.
Pros
Flexibility, be your own boss, great culture
Cons
Middle management leadership does not exist

Product Manager /Lead Business Analyst (Former Employee) –  Palo Alto, CA1 February 2018
Great place to work. Sate of the art building and office establishment. People are friendly and at the same time very smart. There is no pressure to come to office at a particular time of day or leave.
Pros
Free food and drinks
Cons
Political

Growing company with growing pains
Enterprise Inside Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GA30 January 2018
Corporate management does not communicate with local offices effectively to get input on processes that need to be fixed. Local office itself is pretty independent and laid back. Growth opportunities are fairly linear and limited.
Pros
Snacks, benefits (parental leave), work/life balance
Cons
Paths for advancement

Top software company to work for if you are into cloud technology
Senior Cloud Site Reliability Engineer (Former Employee) –  Colorado Springs, CO27 January 2018
Not reviewing at this time. I would not have left if it were not for yearly layoffs, regardless of how well the company is doing.

I learned very much about running an extremely large cloud infrastructure.

Engineering oriented, smart people and cutting edge projects, but bad BU management
Senior Director Software Engineering (Current Employee) –  Palo Alto, CA25 January 2018
Great engineers, but work and atmosphere depends greatly on the Business Unit.

Frequent changes in BU management with bureaucrats create more harm than benefits, it severely affects the potential innovation of good engineering teams.

The BUs' upper management is plagued with politics, rather than looking for the good of the company. Executive management needs to pay attention to that if they wish to keep VMware technology leadership.
Pros
Great work/life balance
Cons
Slow to innovate, individuals are more likely to cover their actions than to innovate and take risks

Solution Architect: Scrum Master and Product Owner (Former Employee) –  Oakville, ON25 January 2018
VMware has great benefits, compensation, and work/life balance. My working experience at VMware was heavily dependent on my manager, but I was lucky enough to have great managers.Changing careers outside of headquarters is possible, but the variety of roles are limited.

Marketing (Former Employee) –  Palo Alto, CA25 January 2018
Bureaucracy is building, but VMware remains a top place to work. Unlimited vacation, 401k matching and many additional benefits.

Path to grow is limited unless you can identify with the decision making process and build executive relationships. Not a true meritocracy.
