Full job description

Database Developer (SQL Server / T-SQL)

About the role

We’re looking for a SQL-focused Database Developer who enjoys working on complex data problems and keeping critical systems running well.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll take ownership of SQL Server environments, improve performance, and support the data pipelines that sit behind key platforms. You’ll spend most of your time working with T-SQL, solving real issues in production, and helping make sure data flows reliably across systems.

You’ll be working closely with engineers and data teams, so part of the role is understanding how your work connects into the bigger picture.

What you’ll be doing

  • Owning and supporting SQL Server databases in production environments
  • Designing and improving queries, stored procedures, functions, and data structures
  • Tuning performance and resolving issues as they come up
  • Supporting and enhancing backend data pipelines and integrations
  • Working closely with engineers and data teams to keep systems running smoothly
  • Contributing to code quality and ongoing improvements across the environment

What you’ll bring

  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server and T-SQL
  • Confidence writing and optimising complex queries
  • Good understanding of data modelling and database design
  • Experience working with ETL/ELT or backend data pipelines
  • Background supporting production environments and solving performance issues
  • Comfortable working with others and contributing to shared outcomes

Nice to have

  • Python for scripting or data processing
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
  • Experience with data orchestration tools or scheduling frameworks
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD ways of working

Why this role

This role sits in a team that supports critical platforms, so the work you do has a direct impact on performance, reliability, and how data moves across the business.

If you enjoy solving problems, improving systems, and working on data that actually matters, this is a good opportunity to get stuck into some meaningful work.
