12‑month Fixed Term Contract | Auckland

At ASB, we’re proud to support Aotearoa’s financial wellbeing – and that includes having a high‑performing, trusted legal function at the heart of our business. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Lawyer to join our Legal Services team on a 12‑month contract, supporting complex regulatory investigations across the ASB Group.

This is a senior, hands‑on role suited to a lawyer who enjoys operating as a trusted adviser, navigating risk, and partnering closely with senior stakeholders in a fast‑moving financial services environment.

Mo te tūranga | About the Role:

In this role, you’ll provide sound, timely and pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders, with a strong focus on:

  • Managing and advising investigations and regulatory matters
  • Identifying, assessing and escalating legal and reputational risk early and effectively
  • Supporting business leaders with clear, commercially grounded legal guidance
  • Liaising with external counsel, regulators and industry bodies as required
  • Contributing to the overall effectiveness and leadership of the ASB Legal Services team
  • Mentoring and supporting less experienced lawyers where needed

You’ll be working closely with senior leaders and will play a key role in ensuring ASB meets its legal obligations while enabling good business outcomes.

We’re keen to hear from senior lawyers who bring:

  • 10+ years’ PQE in relevant practice areas, ideally including litigation and investigations
  • Admission to practise law in New Zealand and eligibility to hold a NZ practising certificate
  • Strong commercial and business acumen, with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders
  • Experience in financial services or a highly regulated environment (desirable, not essential)
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to professional development
