HOME Café is seeking an experienced and motivated Café Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy café located within the National Library of New Zealand in central Wellington. We are known for our quality barista coffee, freshly prepared cabinet food, and friendly service, serving customers from across the Wellington CBD, including nearby government offices and visitors.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated café manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the café. The successful applicant will lead the team, deliver excellent customer service, maintain high standards of food and beverage quality, and help ensure smooth and efficient café operations.

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Positions Available: One (1)

Hours and Pay: minimum 30 hours | $30 - $35 (depending on relevant experience)

Minimum qualifications/experience: At least 3 years of relevant work experience OR at least level 4 qualification

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organise and oversee daily café operations to ensure smooth and efficient service.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain high customer-satisfaction standards.
• Manage the preparation, presentation and quality of food, beverages and café products.
• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, food-safety standards and compliance with relevant requirements.
• Monitor stock levels, place orders, receive deliveries and minimise waste.
• Manage staff rosters, allocate duties and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
• Recruit, train, supervise and support staff; lead by example and promote teamwork.
• Handle customer enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manage stock, equipment and operational needs.
• Monitor sales, costs and budgets, and support the achievement of business targets.
• Ensure the café is presented well and that service areas and equipment are maintained.
• Complete administrative tasks and reports associated with café operations.
• Assist with menu planning, promotions and improving products and service.
• Follow company policies and all applicable health, safety and employment requirements.

• Strong leadership and team-management skills.
• Experience in café operations, hospitality or a similar customer-service environment.
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and stock management.
• Knowledge of café products, service standards and day-to-day operations.
