Health Care Assistant (Caregiver)

About the Role

Metlifecare is seeking compassionate and dedicated Health Care Assistants (Caregivers) to provide person-centred care to residents in its retirement villages and aged care communities. Working alongside Registered Nurses and the wider care team, you will support residents with daily living activities while promoting their independence, dignity, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

Personal & Resident Care

Assist residents with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.

Support residents with meals, hydration, and daily living activities.

Observe and report changes in residents' health and wellbeing.

Assist with care plans under the guidance of Registered Nurses.

Daily Living & Wellbeing

Encourage participation in social, recreational, and wellbeing programmes.

Provide companionship and emotional support.

Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment.

Documentation & Compliance

Accurately document care provided and report incidents or concerns.

Maintain resident confidentiality and follow infection prevention procedures.

Comply with workplace health and safety policies and care standards.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with Registered Nurses, Clinical Managers, and the multidisciplinary team.

Participate in shift handovers and team meetings.

Contribute to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

About You

New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3 or 4), or willingness to obtain one.

Previous experience in aged care, healthcare, disability support, or community care is preferred.

Compassionate, reliable, and resident-focused approach.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

Knowledge of infection prevention, manual handling, and health and safety practices.

Current First Aid Certificate.
