Full job description
Curious about a career in engineering consulting?
At Aurecon, we believe the world needs people who can engineer possibilities—curious, determined problem solvers who turn complexity into clarity.
Our paid 12-week summer Internship Program gives you real exposure to technical and advisory work, structured development, and direct access to experts across our business. You'll contribute to real projects while gaining practical experience in a leading engineering consultancy.
We have opportunities in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Ōtautahi Christchurch for students currently studying Chemical or Process Engineering who want to learn, grow, and explore a career in consultancy.
Bring your ideas to life in either our Energy & Industrial team, supporting industries such as dairy, manufacturing, fuel infrastructure, and renewable energy, or our Land & Water team, helping deliver water and wastewater treatment solutions that support sustainable communities. Depending on your placement and interests, you'll gain exposure to different projects, technical challenges, and career pathways. To learn more about our teams, please refer to our Teams & Degree Map.
Your summer could look like this
-
If you're interested in Energy & Industrial, contribute to projects supporting New Zealand's manufacturing, food and beverage, dairy, and fuel infrastructure sectors, helping improve process efficiency, reliability, and sustainability
-
If you're interested in Land & Water, support the delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects, helping communities access safe, resilient, and sustainable water services
-
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Asia Pacific
-
Build your network through Limelight, our early careers community
-
Learn from experienced industry leaders and technical experts
-
Explore pathways into our Graduate Program
How we support your growth
Our Internship Program is designed to build your technical capability, grow your consulting confidence, and provide insight into different career pathways.
Supported by your team leader, a buddy, and a dedicated early careers team, you'll take part in our Intern Learning Series and Leadership Series—helping you develop your professional skills, expand your network, and understand how complex work is delivered across teams and disciplines.
Recognised by Prosple as one of New Zealand’s 2026 Top 100 Graduate Employers, and proud to hold Gender Tick accreditation and be a Pride Pledge partner, we support our interns to do meaningful work, grow with confidence, and thrive in an inclusive workplace.
What you’ll bring
-
Currently studying Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline, ideally in your second-to-last year of study
-
An interest in either industrial process engineering across manufacturing and processing industries, or water and wastewater treatment systems that support communities and the environment
-
Available for 12 weeks full-time work from mid-November 2026 to February 2027 (with a two-week break over Christmas and New Year)
-
Curiosity, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset
