We are looking for an experienced and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team. The successful
candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of dishes offered by our
restaurant and assisting with the preparation and service of our popular weekend buffet.
Key Responsibilities
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Examine food and ingredients to ensure freshness and quality before preparation and cooking.
- Prepare and cook a variety of Indian, South Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes, including curries, biryanis, tandoori items, starters and other menu items.
- Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, tandoor, fryers and other cooking equipment to ensure food is cooked properly.
- Season food during cooking and ensure consistency in taste, quality and presentation.
- Portion and plate food and add appropriate gravies, sauces, chutneys and garnishes.
- Prepare and cook food in appropriate quantities for weekend buffet service, and monitor and replenish buffet dishes as required.
- Prepare food to meet customers' special dietary requirements and requests.
- Store ingredients and prepared food appropriately in temperature-controlled facilities.
- Assist with planning menu items with the chef and estimating food and ingredient requirements for regular and buffet services.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen and follow food safety requirements.
- Assist with training and guiding junior kitchen staff where required.
Requirements
- Relevant 1 year cooking experience in a busy commercial kitchen or a Level 4 Qualification in the similar field.
- Experience preparing Indian cuisine would be good but not mandatory
- Ability to prepare food in larger quantities for weekend buffet service.
- Good understanding of food preparation, cooking, food safety and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain consistent food quality.
- Ability to work as part of a kitchen team.
- Must be available to work weekends, public holidays including during buffet service.
Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour
