Contract: Full Time but willing to consider Part-Time
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.
About the Role
We at Ngā Tai Oranga, The Healing Tides are a small multi-disciplinary team based in Newtown, Wellington. The clinical psychologist role is diverse as it involves providing therapies, supervision and consultations, and teaching mental health clinicians about tāngata whaiora with severe distress intolerance, relationship and emotional dysregulation that impacts on their life (across the lifespan) and their significant others and whānau. The people we work with are often conceptualised as having complex PTSD and/or borderline personality disorder.
We provide consultation, supervision and advice to mental health service teams. We offer teaching on emotion regulation skills, formulation, and understanding risk. We emphasise person-centred compassionate formulations. We have contracts with other districts and provide regular consultations and teaching to these regions. This is an opportunity to be part of our dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) programme as a therapist.
Salary range is by the MECA $70,000-$150,000 depending on experience.
About the Team/Service/ Location
We are multi-disciplinary team of eight clinicians. We are passionate about working with tāngata whaiora who have significant difficulties with emotion regulation, self-identity and relational capacities. Often this group of people are marginalised and we advocate for compassion, robust formulations, best practice and evidence informed treatments.
Our team works well together because we apply the skills we teach in therapy to ourselves. We promote open communication and care for each other, because we know that in order to provide effective therapies we need to feel well supported. The team leader meets regularly with staff to provide support and guidance. We often work in pairs in our teaching and consultations.
About you
- We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated clinical psychologist to join our team. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who enjoys being part of a team and has compassionate understanding of the people we work with.
- The ideal candidate will have: 1. Knowledge, understanding and experience working with, treating, assessing and formulating tāngata whaiora with severe distress intolerance, relationship and emotional dysregulation and, 2. Experience in evidence-based therapies for treating this group of tāngata whaiora including experience in clinically indicated risk taking.
- While we are ideally seeking an experienced clinician because of the complex presentations we work with, we would consider a person passionate about our work who is less experienced. We would provide training opportunities, support and supervision to ensure the placement is successful.
- We welcome applications from people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disability, religions, including applicants with lived experience of mental distress.
