We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our AI and Data Science team. You will work with stakeholders and technical teams to turn complex or ambiguous business questions into robust analytical solutions and actionable insights.

You will apply advanced analytical, statistical and AI techniques to real-world challenges. Your work may include forecasts, statistical models, optimisation approaches and AI solutions, with responsibility spanning discovery and data preparation through to implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement.

This is an opportunity to deliver trusted, explainable and well-governed solutions that improve decision-making across Auckland Transport, while contributing to shared analytical standards, reusable assets and team learning.

Ko koe tēnei | About you

You will bring at least three years of experience applying statistical and analytical techniques to real-world business problems, along with a relevant tertiary qualification in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

You will be proficient in one or more analytical programming languages such as Python, R or SQL, and experienced in working with stakeholders to define problems, interpret results and communicate practical recommendations.

You will be a curious and proactive problem-solver who can communicate complex findings, uncertainty and limitations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will understand the importance of reproducibility, explainability, privacy, security, data governance and responsible AI throughout the analytical lifecycle.

• Experience applying advanced analytical, statistical and machine-learning techniques to business challenges, such as forecasting, segmentation, optimisation or recommendation systems.

• Experience developing reproducible, maintainable and well-documented analytical workflows.

• Experience with version control, testing, peer review and collaborative development practices.

• Experience deploying and monitoring analytical or AI solutions in production.

• Experience using visualisation and data storytelling to support decision-making.

• Experience using modern cloud data, analytics and AI platforms. Familiarity with Dataiku, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure, Visual Studio Code or GitHub would be advantageous.
