Are you energetic, fun, patient and looking for a part-time role that’s anything but boring?

We’re looking for a positive and enthusiastic person to spend time with an awesome 14-year-old guy who loves music, swimming and getting out and about. This is a chance to become an important part of his world—having fun, building a genuine connection and supporting him to enjoy life and grow his independence.

He is non-verbal and has physical and intellectual disabilities, but he understands far more than he can express. We’re looking for someone who is naturally engaging, observant and intuitive—someone who can build a great connection without relying on conversation.

No two afternoons need to feel like a typical "care job." You'll be helping him enjoy the things he loves while supporting his everyday routines.

Your role will include:

• Hanging out, listening to music and keeping him happily engaged.
• Going for walks and pushing his wheelchair.
• Taking him swimming at the local hydrotherapy pool.
• Supporting his independence and encouraging him to try new things.
• Assisting with personal care, including showering, dressing and continence support.
• Supporting wheelchair and hoist transfers.
• Driving the family's wheelchair-accessible van.

You might be a student, someone interested in disability support, healthcare, education or physiotherapy—or simply a young, energetic person who enjoys working with young people and wants a meaningful part-time job.

You'll ideally be:

We’re looking for someone energetic, patient and reliable who is confident supporting mobility and personal care, enjoys being fully engaged, and can connect with a young person beyond words. Disability or hoist experience is helpful but not essential as full training is provided; a full NZ driver’s licence is essential.

Hours

• Monday to Friday during the school term: approximately 4.30pm–6.30pm
• Every second Friday off
• Additional flexible hours available during weekends and school holidays
• 10+ hours per week

Tikipunga, Whangārei

Ideally, you'll live locally so the regular after-school shifts are easy to get to.
