Community Support Worker — Choices in Community Living
Part-time | 10 hours per week $23.97 – $29.68 per hour South Auckland
Are you passionate about helping others live full, independent lives in their own homes and communities? Do you believe in the power of hobbies, connection, and personal growth? Spectrum Care is looking for caring, creative individuals to join our Choices in Community Living team.
Support hours range from 6am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday with potential sleepovers required, shifts are shaped around each person's lifestyle, interests, and aspirations.
What is Choices in Community Living?
Choices in Community Living (CICL) is person-centred support service for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. We provide tailored, one-on-one support that helps people live in their own homes, engage with their communities, and pursue meaningful goals — from employment and education to friendships and hobbies.
Our support is guided by the principles of Enabling Good Lives (EGL), a values-based approach that places people at the centre of their own lives. This means we work in partnership with each person to ensure their support is personalised, strengths-based, and aligned with their goals and aspirations. We promote choice and control, enabling people to make decisions about how they live, who they connect with, and what matters most to them. Support is designed to foster meaningful inclusion in the community — not just participation, but genuine belonging.
As a Community Support Worker, you take on tasks that are dynamic and will depend on the needs and dreams of each person. You provide assistance with daily activities such as community participation, socialising, work or education, personal cares and domestic chores, as well as responsibility for reporting and administration. Every action you take contributes to building a life that reflects the person's values, interests, and potential — a life like any other.
What You'll Do
As a Community Support Worker, you'll help people:
- Build routines that support independence and wellbeing
- Explore hobbies and passions — from music and art to sports and animals
- Connect with local clubs, community spaces, and interest groups
- Discover volunteering, education, or employment opportunities
- Strengthen social confidence and relationships
- Navigate everyday tasks like personal care, household chores, and community outings
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with families and colleagues
Who You Are
You bring energy, empathy, and a genuine love for people. You might be into:
Art, Music, Dog walking, Sports, Gardening, Gaming, Baking — or anything else that sparks joy and connection.
You're also:
- Organised and reliable
- Patient and calm in all situations
- A great communicator and natural motivator
- Comfortable with personal care and daily living support
- Passionate about inclusion, empowerment, and community engagement
What You'll Need
- A full NZ driver's licence - or actively working towards one
- Excellent verbal and written English
- Ability to pass a NZ police check
- Basic computer skills (Word, email, internet)
- Willingness to learn — we'll support you to gain a Level 3 qualification in Community Support Work
- Required to attend a 2 week paid induction to prepare you for the role
Experience with disability, mental health, or behaviours that challenge is helpful but not essential. What matters most is your ability to connect, uplift, and inspire.
If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:
- Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, or
- A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
If you're ready to help others live lives of choice, connection, and confidence — we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and be part of something truly meaningful.
Spectrum Care is proudly an equal opportunity employer.
