Community Support Worker — Supported Independent Living
Part-time | 12 hours per week $23.97 - $29.68 per hour Wellsford, Auckland
Do you believe that hobbies build confidence, community creates belonging, and everyone deserves a life filled with purpose? Spectrum Care is looking for energetic, compassionate individuals to join our Supported Independent Living team — helping people with disabilities live ordinary, extraordinary lives.
This position is based in Wellsford and ideally seeking an applicant who lives locally or within the surrounding area. Looking for a support worker who enjoys being active in the community and supporting meaningful engagement. An interest in arts and crafts would be ideal; however, a willingness to try new activities and explore new interests is just as important. The successful applicant will be a positive motivator with a vibrant, energetic personality, who can encourage participation and build strong, supportive relationships.
About Supported Independent Living
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is all about empowering adults with physical and intellectual disabilities to live in their own homes and be active members of their communities. We provide tailored, one-on-one support that helps people build routines, develop life skills, and pursue personal goals — whether that's joining a local club, finding meaningful work, or simply enjoying a hobby.
Support is offered across a range of hours (6am-9pm, Monday to Sunday), and is shaped by each person's unique needs, interests, and aspirations.
About the Role
As a Community Support Worker, you'll provide one-on-one support to adults with physical and intellectual disabilities in their homes and communities. Your work will be dynamic and person-led, shaped by each individual's goals, interests, and aspirations.
You'll help people:
- Explore hobbies and passions — from music and art to sports and animals
- Build daily routines that support independence and wellbeing
- Connect with local clubs, community spaces, and interest groups
- Discover volunteering, education, or employment opportunities
- Strengthen social confidence and relationships
- Navigate everyday tasks like personal care, household chores, and community outings
Support hours range between 6am and 9pm, Monday to Sunday, with some flexibility to suit both staff and the people we support.
Who You Are
You bring creativity, empathy, and a genuine love for people. You might be into:
Art, Music, Dog walking, Sports, Gardening, Gaming, Baking — or anything else that sparks joy and connection.
You're also:
- Organised and reliable
- Patient and calm in all situations
- A great communicator with families, colleagues, and the people you support
- Comfortable with personal care and daily living support
- Passionate about inclusion, empowerment, and community engagement
What You'll Need
- A full NZ driver's licence - or actively working towards one
- Excellent verbal and written English
- Ability to pass a NZ police check
- Basic computer skills (Word, email, internet)
- Willingness to learn — we'll support you to gain a Level 3 qualification in Community Support Work
- Required to attend a 2 week paid induction to prepare you for the role
Experience with disability, mental health, or behaviours that challenge is helpful but not essential. What matters most is your ability to connect, uplift, and inspire.
If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:
- Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or
- A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
The Spectrum Group is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We actively encourage and support applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals.
If you're ready to help others build lives full of creativity, connection, and confidence — we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and be part of something truly meaningful.
Spectrum Care is proudly an equal opportunity employer.
