Our People Services whanau are currently seeking a Senior People Adviser to join our team on a part-time basis, based in either Hamilton or Christchurch.

The People Services team partners closely with our frontline leaders, connecting people practices across the organisation to enable better ways of working. We play a pivotal role in the ongoing delivery of high-quality people processes, policies, strategies and services that contribute to the successful achievement of the Department's strategy Hokai Rangi.

As an experienced HR professional, you will know that being driven and committed to delivering key people related initiatives, improving performance and raising capability is only part of the journey. Equally important is your ability to engage across all levels of the organisation with confidence, passion and empathy.

Reporting directly to the Manager People Services, you will draw on your previous experience to coach, guide and provide trusted advice. Your work will encompass a broad range of matters including employment relations, HR policy and procedures, and performance development

You are somebody who enjoys working at pace and thrives in an environment that is both complex and varied-where the adage "no two days are ever the same" truly comes to life.

You'll bring experience working within a large organisation where compliance with policy and process is essential, along with the ability to deliver operational human resource services effectively and efficiently in a challenging environment. This role is heavily ER focused, so experience and interest in employment relations is essential.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Employment Relations experience dealing with complex employment matters is essential
  • Detailed knowledge of current NZ employment law and practical experience of its application
  • Ability to work at pace and demonstrate resilience in the workplace
  • Well-developed analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to build strong working relationships to support and enable the business to achieve its goals and strategy
  • Ability to maintain confidence and security of personal information
  • Ability to influence, advise and support managers with critical decision making
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • An understanding (or an openness to developing an understanding) of the Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to the work of government departments
  • The ability to operate independently

Nga painga | The benefits

The mid-point of the salary range is $123,511 per annum (pro rata) and the full range (85%-120%) is $104,985 - $148,214 per annum (pro rata). Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
