About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Cafe Manager to lead our team and oversee the daily operations of our busy café. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, managing staff, maintaining high food safety and hygiene standards, driving sales, and ensuring the café operates efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all day-to-day café operations to ensure smooth and efficient service.
Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff to achieve high performance.
Prepare staff rosters and manage attendance, leave, and shift coverage.
Deliver outstanding customer service and resolve customer concerns professionally.
Monitor sales, labour costs, and operating expenses to meet business targets.
Maintain inventory, order supplies, and manage stock levels to minimise waste.
Ensure compliance with all food safety, health, and workplace safety regulations.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and quality throughout the café.
Monitor cash handling procedures and complete daily banking and reporting.
Work closely with the business owner to develop promotions, improve operations, and grow the business.
Lead by example and foster a positive, respectful, and productive workplace culture.
Skills and Experience
Proven experience as a Cafe Manager, Restaurant Manager, or Hospitality Manager.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
Experience with stock control, budgeting, and cost management.
Knowledge of food safety and health and safety requirements.
Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer skills.
Flexible to work weekends, public holidays, and varying shifts as required.
Qualifications
Relevant hospitality management qualification is preferred but not essential.
Food Safety Certificate (preferred).
Valid work rights in New Zealand.
