About Us
Precision Chess Academy is a growing New Zealand chess coaching academy providing high-quality chess coaching in schools, online, and through private lessons. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of chess players by developing critical thinking, confidence, concentration, and problem-solving skills through structured and engaging coaching.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and experienced Chess Coach based in Hamilton to deliver weekly chess coaching sessions at local schools.
About the Role
This is a part time position with flexible hours during the school term. Coaching sessions are held before school, during lunchtime, or after school depending on each school's timetable.
As our Hamilton Chess Coach, you will be responsible for delivering all Precision Chess Academy coaching sessions within the Hamilton region. You will represent the Academy professionally while creating a positive, enjoyable, and educational environment where students can develop their chess skills and confidence.
The successful applicant will receive structured lesson plans, coaching resources, ongoing support, and professional training to ensure consistency across our programmes.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and structured chess lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels.
- Teach beginner to intermediate chess concepts using Precision Chess Academy's coaching programme.
- Create a fun, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Encourage students to develop their confidence, critical thinking, and sportsmanship.
- Supervise students throughout each coaching session.
- Set up and pack away chess equipment before and after lessons.
- Communicate professionally with schools, parents, and Precision Chess Academy when required.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism and punctuality.
Requirements
- Strong chess playing ability with a solid understanding of tactics, strategy, and endgames. Applicants should provide their Chess.com, Lichess, and/or FIDE profile or rating as part of their application.
- Comfortable working with children and passionate about helping young players improve.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, organised, professional, and punctual.
- Confident managing small and medium-sized groups of students.
- Full New Zealand driver's licence and reliable transport.
- Eligible to work in New Zealand.
- Willing to complete a New Zealand Police Vetting check before commencing employment.
Preferred
- Previous chess coaching experience.
