About the Role:
As an Indian Chef, you will be responsible preparing authentic Indian dishes, managing kitchen operations, developing menus, and ensuring high standards of food quality, hygiene, and staff performance.
Must have minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
Full time, permanent position (minimum 35 hours per week)
Location: Napier, Hawke’s Bay
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook traditional Indian dishes using authentic techniques, including tandoori, curries, and regional specialties such as North Indian, South Indian, Mughlai, and Punjabi cuisines.
- Master spice blends and masalas, ensuring consistency in taste and aroma across all dishes.
- Operate equipment like tandoor ovens and manage sections such as kebabs and tikkas.
- Kitchen Management and Leadership
- Supervise and train kitchen staff, including commis chefs, cooks, and apprentices, to maintain efficiency and skill development.
- Oversee kitchen operations during service, ensuring dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste, temperature, and presentation.
- Manage inventory and stock control for spices, lentils, specialty produce, and dry goods.
- Food Safety and Quality Assurance
- Enforce hygiene, health, and safety protocols across all kitchen areas.
- Monitor food preparation to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with sanitation regulations.
- Menu Planning and Collaboration
- Design menus that reflect regional Indian culinary traditions while appealing to customer - preferences.
- Adapt recipes and menus based on seasonal ingredients and customer feedback.
