Full job description

Eastern Collective Ltd is seeking experienced Indian Chefs for our upcoming Pan Asian Restaurant, opening in Halswell, Christchurch.

Our restaurant site is currently under construction as part of the brand-new The Acres development, with an anticipated opening around August / September 2026.

We are currently developing our menu and would love for our future Chef/s to be involved from the very beginning — including contributing ideas toward menu development and kitchen setup.

The menu will feature dishes inspired from the following countries but not limited to:

Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India

This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new hospitality venture from the ground up and grow alongside the business.

Position Details

Position: Indian Chef
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Minimum Hours: 30 hours per week
Maximum Hours: 40 hours per week but may require overtime from time to time.
Pay Rate: NZD $28.00 – $35.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes to a high standard
  • Must know tandoori dishes
  • Assist with menu planning and development
  • Maintain food quality and presentation standards
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment
  • Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen and front-of-house team
  • Knowledge and experience of Asian dishes will be a high advantage

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience as a Chef or Cook in a commercial Indian kitchen
  • Experience with Asian dishes will be a high advantage
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen operations
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
