Summer Student Intern - Molecular Plant Science & Biotechnology Research - Identification of Plant Disease Resistance-Related Protein Interactions Using Yeast Two-Hybrid Analysis

• Contribute to a research project investigating plant disease resistance and plant immunity.

What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua

• Perform yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) pairwise interaction assays to investigate interactions between candidate proteins involved in plant disease resistance.
• Assist with screening an plant Y2H cDNA library to identify novel proteins that interact with genes of interest.
• Apply molecular biology techniques including plasmid preparation, PCR, cloning, and yeast transformation.
• Record, analyse, and interpret experimental data while maintaining accurate laboratory records.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to project updates, reports, and presentations.

To be successful in this role, the minimum qualifications required are:

• Currently studying towards a degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Plant Science, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline, and returning to study in the following academic year.
• A foundational understanding of molecular biology and genetics principles.
• An interest in plant science, biotechnology, and scientific research.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to good laboratory practices.
• A willingness to learn new techniques and contribute positively within a team environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential.
