Full job description

Position: Italian Chef
Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time
Location: Rotorua, New Zealand

About the Role

The Royal Palm is looking for a passionate and experienced Italian Chef to join our kitchen team. We are looking for someone who has strong knowledge of authentic Italian cuisine and can prepare high-quality dishes consistently in a busy restaurant environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing Italian dishes including pizza, pasta, risotto, sauces, salads and other Italian specialties, while maintaining excellent food quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook authentic Italian dishes to a high standard.
  • Prepare fresh pasta, pizza dough, sauces and other ingredients.
  • Cook dishes according to recipes and restaurant standards.
  • Maintain consistent taste, quality and presentation.
  • Manage food preparation and kitchen operations during service.
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and food-safety standards.
  • Monitor stock levels and minimise food wastage.
  • Assist with menu development and new Italian dishes.
  • Work efficiently during busy lunch, dinner and event services.
  • Train and support other kitchen staff when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen.
  • Follow New Zealand food-safety requirements.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience as an Italian Chef or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of authentic Italian cuisine.
  • Experience making pizza and pasta from scratch.
  • Good knowledge of Italian sauces, meats, seafood and vegetarian dishes.
  • Excellent food preparation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety.
  • Ability to maintain consistent quality and portion control.
