Ward Clerk, Starship Child Health

  • Starship - New Zealands premier childrens hospital
  • Full-time and part-time roles available - No night shifts

About the role

We have two Ward Clerk positions available. Both roles involve working fully-rostered shifts including a mixture of mornings and afternoons across a Monday Sunday schedule. Specific days and work times involved will be discussed during the interviews:

  • Permanent Full-time (40 hours per week)

This role is in Starship General Paediatrics Service (Ward 25), level 5. Ward 25 functions as a general paediatrics medical ward and is a fast paced and diverse medical ward which also includes the regional inpatient eating disorder service.

  • Permanent Part-time (32 hours per week)

This role is in the Medical Specialities Service (Ward 26B). Ward 26B provides tertiary and quaternary care to children including treatment for long term and specialist medical conditions. Our ward specialises in caring for children from the neonatal period right up to age sixteen with complex and often long-term needs relating to Renal, Gastro and Respiratory.

This fast-paced role includes a great amount of adaptability and prioritisation skills to cope with the changing environments, great for those who thrive under pressure! The role of a Ward Clerk varies day-to-day and involves a high level of contact with children, families and healthcare teams on the ward. You will be responsible for the maintenance of patient's files, arranging and monitoring patient locations, communication and liaison, and assisting in ward management functions.

About you

As the ideal candidate you will have proven clerical experience and a positive 'can do' attitude. You will bring your advanced computer skills and effective communication approaches to be able to connect well with staff and patients.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Excellent English language ability
  • At least 2 years clerical experience and experience in a front-line role
  • Proven MS Office capability including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Accurate Data Entry Skills
  • A basic understanding of medical terminology (desired)
  • Knowledge of health information systems (desired)
