Full job description

Our Tauranga team is growing again!

At Tend, we're looking for medical receptionists who see the profound impact of their work - professionals who understand that the difference between a good day and a bad day for a patient often starts with you. This role is a 0.8FTE role (4 days per week). You will be required to work across all clinics in Tauranga, including Greerton, Bethlehem, South City and Pāpāmoa.

Why this role is different

We're transforming primary care in New Zealand by blending cutting-edge technology with genuine human connection. While our app handles the routine stuff, you handle what matters - the moments when someone needs reassurance, clarity, or simply to be heard.

This isn't about choosing between modern healthcare and personal touch. At Tend, you get both.

The reality of this role

You'll be the anchor point for patients across our Tauranga GP practices. That means:

  • Being the calm, knowledgeable voice when patients are stressed or confused

  • Orchestrating complex schedules while making it look effortless

  • Using our tech platform to eliminate busy work, so you can focus on people

  • Collaborating with clinical teams who value and respect your expertise

  • Handling difficult conversations with grace (yes, even on Mondays)

  • Contributing ideas that actually get implemented - because you see things others miss

You're right for this if you:

  • Have substantial medical reception experience and still love what you do

  • Stay in roles because you build relationships, not just fill seats

  • You are calm under pressure because you know your team has your back.

  • You care about patients but also about doing things efficiently and to a high standard

  • Can defuse tension with empathy rather than authority

  • Find satisfaction in getting the details right AND making someone's day better

  • Want to work somewhere that's professionalising and elevating reception work

  • Believe healthcare should feel accessible, not intimidating

What sets you apart:

You've likely been the receptionist other practices try to poach. You're the one doctors specifically thank. Patients remember you. Not because you're trying to be memorable, but because you genuinely care about getting it right for them.

What we offer:

You'll join a team that's actively reshaping New Zealand healthcare. Your voice matters here - from improving workflows to designing better patient experiences. We invest in your development because we know exceptional reception work requires real skill.

Ready to elevate your career?

If you're keen to be part of a team providing health care with that personal touch and a bit of tech, let's talk. We're building something different at Tend, and we need receptionists who get it.
