About the Role
We have an exciting role, based at Auckland City Hospital. Here we are inviting applications for the Medical Laboratory Scientist position in the Microbiology Department , LabPLUS. This is a permanent role with 1.0FTE/40 Hours per week. The Microbiology Laboratory at LabPLUS uses molecular and culture techniques to identify a range of organisms including enteric pathogens, multi drug -resistant organisms, anaerobes, fungi and Mycobacteria. Our aim is to provide a total lab service of excellence and innovation.
You will be working in the General Section which includes primary processing of a diverse range of samples, culture reading in the areas of urines, enteric pathogens, respiratory samples, sterile sites, anaerobes and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. You will also be working in the rapid molecular testing area registering, processing and analysing a range of samples using automated platforms .Key personal skills we are looking for in candidates are those who (a) are adept at task-switching (b) can remain focussed on task(s) when under pressure and (c) are comfortable in a work environment that can demand high flexibility.
Microbiology is a 24/7 laboratory and you will be required to participate in a roster which covers three shifts: 0730 1600; 1530 0000; and 2300 0730.

LabPLUS is an IANZ accredited medical laboratory and is one of New Zealand's premier laboratories. LabPLUS are part of the state-owned Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We offer a comprehensive pathology service for Auckland City Hospital, Starship Childrens Hospital, National Women's Health, and the Greenlane Clinical Centre. LabPLUS is also a major referral laboratory for specialised laboratory tests for New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Visit our website www.labplus.co.nz for more information.

About you
As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:
- NZ Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- You should have formal qualification in the subject of diagnostic Microbiology
- Good communication skills and a strong knowledge of analytical and quality processes
- Must have an attention to detail with a strong focus on quality together with a can-do attitude to work in a fast-paced and busy environment
