Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to join a well-established surgical service in New Zealand.
This role is ideal for a skilled orthopaedic surgeon with broad experience in general orthopaedics and trauma, looking to contribute to a diverse and dynamic clinical environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care while supporting the development of subspecialty services within the department.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive orthopaedic services, including elective and acute trauma care.
- Perform a wide range of orthopaedic surgical procedures, including joint arthroplasty and general orthopaedic interventions.
- Manage outpatient clinics, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for orthopaedic patients.
- Participate in acute on-call services and trauma management.
- Contribute to subspecialty service development, aligning with departmental needs (e.g., arthroplasty, paediatrics, sports surgery).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support teaching, training, and supervision of junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
- Engage in service planning and innovation to enhance orthopaedic care delivery.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Registration
Essential
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility for vocational/temporary registration.
Desirable
- Current vocational registration with MCNZ.
Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in managing a wide range of orthopaedic conditions.
- Experience in both elective orthopaedics and acute trauma care.
- Ability to work independently and manage complex surgical cases.
- Minimum 1 year of NHS experience.
Desirable
- Subspecialty interest that complements existing services (e.g., arthroplasty, paediatrics, sports surgery).
