About the Role

As a Health Care Assistant - Outpatients (OPD), no two days are ever the same. You will work under the direction and delegation of Registered Nurses, playing a vital role in preparing clinic rooms, and ensuring patients are comfortably transitioned ahead of their specialist appointments. Your daily duties will include welcoming patients and whānau, assisting with basic clinical observations (such as weight and height), maintaining strict infection control standards, and providing essential chaperone and mobility support during clinical procedures. You will need to learn procurement systems management for ordering the many sundries that are used in the service, so bring your computer skills.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Outpatient Service has 2 sites. Whilst you will be predominately based at the Tauranga Hospital site, there will be occasions that your workday will take you to our Greerton clinic. Outpatients operate as a critical, fast-paced ambulatory care hub covering a wide variety of medical and surgical clinics. Our team is a highly collaborative, tight-knit, and multidisciplinary unit comprised of Consultants, Registrars, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, and dedicated administrative support staff. We pride ourselves on creating a safe, welcoming, and culturally responsive environment for both our patients and our colleagues.

About you

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, compassionate person who brings competence, a strong sense of teamwork, and a patient-focused mindset to every shift. You are committed to high-quality care and thrive in a busy ward environment.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A reliable HCA, preferable holding an NZQA Level 3 o 4 Health and Wellbeing Certificate
  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Strong computer literacy with the ability to navigate standard hospital systems and basic digital platforms
  • Prior experience in a hospital setting is highly advantageous
