Horticulture Tutor
Location: Mt Wellington, Auckland
Full-time | Permanent | On-site
About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate Horticulture Tutor to deliver our New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (Nursery Production) Level 3 programme. In this hands-on role, you'll teach learners the practical skills and industry knowledge needed for a career in horticulture.
You'll deliver training in plant propagation, pruning, plant care, growing systems, and pest, weed and disease management, with practical learning taking place in greenhouse, nursery and outdoor environments. You'll support learners from diverse backgrounds, helping them build confidence, gain industry-ready skills, and progress into employment or further study.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Deliver engaging theory and practical horticulture training
- Teach plant propagation, pruning, plant care and growing systems
- Facilitate practical learning in greenhouse and outdoor environments
- Develop training plans and maintain student records and assessments
- Embed literacy and numeracy into programme delivery
- Mentor learners towards successful qualification completion
- Build relationships with industry partners and support work placements
- Ensure compliance with NZQA and internal quality standards
Qualifications
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Practical experience in horticulture, ideally in nursery production, propagation or commercial growing
- A minimum Level 4 qualification in Horticulture or a related field
- Strong knowledge of plant care, propagation, pruning, and pest, weed and disease management
- A passion for supporting and engaging learners from diverse backgrounds
- Previous teaching, training or coaching experience is desirable but not essential
- Excellent communication, literacy and numeracy skills
