We’re excited to offer an opportunity to join Auckland Hospital’s Emergency Department as a Peer Support Specialist, working alongside ED staff to provide emotional support, guidance, and reassurance during stressful and overwhelming times.
The Role | Nga Mahi
The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) in the Emergency Department provides non-clinical support, guidance, and resources to patients and families experiencing mental health or substance use crises. This role involves leveraging personal lived experiences to build trust, provide emotional support, and advocate for patient needs within the emergency setting
PSS will work as a functional member of an Emergency Department team providing a recovery approach to walk alongside people in their recovery journey, role-modelling hope for recovery, contributing to a positive recovery-oriented environment where relationships, interaction and communication are present.
You will have | Nga Pukenga
- Relevant lived experience of going through Emergency Department as a whaiora
- Preferably level 4 National Certificate of Health & Wellbeing or higher qualification
- A strong desire to support others in times of need.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy, resilience, and a calm presence and
- The ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Full NZ Driver’s License
- Valid/Current work visa, residency, or citizenship
