Purpose of the Job

The Medical Affairs Professional (MAP) is a scientific and clinical resource for the New Zealand affiliate, supporting patients, health care providers (HCPs) and payers across the company's portfolio. The MAP maintains a high-level working understanding of cardiometabolic health, oncology and neuroscience, enabling flexible, integrated support across therapeutic areas as business needs require, while working closely with therapeutic area leads for specialist input.

The MAP contributes to local medical strategy and evidence generation, supports scientific exchange with HCPs, and ensures all medical activities comply with New Zealand legislation and guidance (including the Medicines Act 1981, Medsafe requirements and the Medicines New Zealand Code of Practice), Good Clinical Practice, and company policy.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Customer Support

Understand and anticipate the scientific information needs of patients, HCPs and payers across cardiometabolic, oncology and neuroscience areas.
Contribute medical/scientific input to local brand and access strategies, working with cross-functional and global teams.
Support training of internal customer-facing teams on relevant therapeutic science.
Provide medical review and input for promotional and educational materials.

Scientific Data Dissemination & Exchange

Respond to unsolicited scientific enquiries from HCPs in line with global and local SOPs.
Support advisory boards, symposia and other HCP engagements.
Build and maintain relationships with relevant thought leaders and professional societies.
Support development and review of publications, slide sets and congress materials.

Clinical Planning & Trial Support

Support the planning, start-up and conduct of local and global clinical studies as required.
Keep up to date with pre-clinical and clinical data relevant to assigned products.
Act as a scientific resource for investigators, site staff and clinical research teams.
Monitor and report patient safety information in line with pharmacovigilance requirements.

Regulatory & Compliance Support

Provide medical input into local labelling (Data Sheets) and regulatory submissions.
Support engagement with Medsafe and other New Zealand regulatory bodies as required.
Ensure all activities comply with local law, GCP and company quality standards.

Scientific & Technical Expertise

Maintain a high-level, working understanding of disease area science, treatment landscape and competitor activity across cardiometabolic health (60%), oncology (20%) and neuroscience (20%). These may change in terms of focus over time.
Critically evaluate medical literature and stay current on developments relevant to the broader portfolio.
Escalate to and collaborate with therapeutic area specialists for in-depth scientific queries.
Participate in relevant medical congresses and scientific symposia.

General Responsibilities

Collaborate proactively with business, medical and vendor partners.
Contribute to team development through coaching and constructive feedback.
Support the local medical budget as required.
Act as an ambassador for patients and the company brand.

Basic Requirements

An advanced health/medical/scientific degree (e.g. MD, PharmD, PhD, MSN with clinical specialty) and relevant clinical or pharmaceutical experience; OR a Bachelor's/Master's degree in a health/medical/scientific field with substantial pharmaceutical experience directly relevant to medical affairs, clinical development or drug discovery.
Demonstrated ability to balance scientific rigour with business priorities.
Strong communication, interpersonal, organisational and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to work across multiple therapeutic areas and quickly build foundational scientific knowledge.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Fluent in English, written and verbal.
