Full job description
Do science that changes how the world breeds livestock.
Engender Technologies is a New Zealand biotech commercialising a laser-based sperm-sorting platform that's transforming breeding outcomes across the global dairy and livestock industry. Our science sits where reproductive biology, photonics, microfluidics and software meet — and our Biology & Research team is at the heart of every product decision we make.
We're looking for a Scientist to join us at a genuinely formative stage.
The role
You'll design and run experiments within our reproductive biology programme, analyse the data, and help uphold the experimental rigour our platform depends on. Working alongside our Senior Scientist and Biology Lead, you'll build real independence and specialist expertise over time — this is a role you grow into and within.
What you'll do
- Design and execute experiments, taking on more independence as you build capability
- Process and analyse biological samples and data to a high, SOP-driven standard
- Maintain thorough QMS-compliant lab documentation and help shape our protocols and SOPs
- Support and mentor our Biology Technicians in the Lab
- Contribute to team science — journal clubs, cross-functional problem-solving, internal reporting This role offers a mix of standard business hours and afternoon/evening shifts. We’re looking for someone comfortable with a flexible schedule that changes from week to week.
Requirements
What you'll bring:
-
- BSc or MSc in biological sciences, reproductive biology, biochemistry or a closely related field
-
- 2–4 years' hands-on experience in a lab research environment
-
- Confidence with core techniques such as cell culture, microscopy and PCR (or equivalent)
-
- Comfort with data and statistics
-
- Sharp attention to detail and genuine care for data integrity
-
- A collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude that thrives in a small, fast-moving team
Benefits
- Be part of cutting-edge research driving the future of agri-biotech innovation.
- Work in a close-knit, supportive team with a strong collaborative culture.
- Contribute to meaningful science with real-world commercial impact.
- Hands-on experience with advanced microfluidics and imaging technology.
- Opportunities for professional growth in a fast-evolving startup environment.
- Central Auckland location with easy access and modern lab facilities.
- Flexible, values-driven workplace focused on health, safety, and innovation
