Position: Assistant Restaurant Manager
Location: Mount Roskill, Auckland
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week (Fixed and guaranteed)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Pay Rate: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour

About the Role

Chutney's is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Restaurant Manager to support the Restaurant Manager in their absence in overseeing the daily operations of our busy restaurant. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring smooth restaurant operations, maintaining high customer service standards, supervising staff, and assisting with the overall operational efficiency and profitability of the business.

The Assistant Restaurant Manager will work alongside and support the Restaurant Manager in their absence in overseeing restaurant operations and ensuring efficient service delivery during all operating hours, including busy brunch, dinner, buffet, and group booking periods.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Restaurant Manager in their absence in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the restaurant to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery.
  • Plan menus in consultation with Chefs, considering customer preferences, seasonal availability, and business requirements.
  • Assist in planning and organising buffet services, catering functions, and group bookings for customers.
  • Arrange and monitor the purchasing and pricing of food, beverages, and restaurant supplies.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock levels, inventory usage, wastage, and financial transactions.
  • Ensure dining and kitchen facilities comply with health, hygiene, food safety, and workplace safety regulations and are maintained in a clean, functional, and presentable condition.
  • Confer with customers to assess satisfaction with meals and service and professionally resolve customer concerns and complaints.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and coordinate waiting staff and kitchen staff to maintain efficient operations and high customer service standards.
  • Prepare and manage staff rosters and ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained during operating hours and busy service periods.
  • Supervise restaurant staff during allocated shifts and provide operational leadership in the absence of the Restaurant Manager.
  • Assist with taking reservations, greeting guests, handling customer orders, and coordinating front-of-house operations when required.
  • Monitor daily restaurant operations to ensure food quality, presentation standards, customer experience, and service efficiency are consistently maintained.
  • Implement and maintain workplace health and safety procedures in accordance with New Zealand regulations and company policies.
  • Assist in monitoring staff performance and provide ongoing support and guidance to team members.
  • Support the Restaurant Manager in implementing operational procedures, service standards, and business objectives in their absence.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Hospitality, Management, Business, or a related field, and least 6 months of work experience in manager role within the hospitality sector.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Good organisational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety, workplace health and safety, and hospitality compliance requirements.
  • Ability to independently supervise restaurant operations and manage staff during shifts.
