Full job description

Fare Grounds Limited, known for providing great services, is seeking a Cafe Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of its cafe in Cambridge, Waikato. The role involves managing daily café operations, coordinating staff, maintaining service and food quality standards, and ensuring a positive customer experience.

Key Duties:

  • Manage the café’s daily operations to ensure an efficient workflow and consistently strong service standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for customer service, food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety.
  • Work with the kitchen team to review and adjust menu options according to customer preferences, seasonal ingredients, and cost considerations.
  • Prepare and oversee budgets, monitor financial results, and implement appropriate cost-control measures to support profitability.
  • Analyse sales information, customer feedback, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for operational improvement and business growth.
  • Monitor inventory requirements by forecasting demand, arranging supply orders, and maintaining effective supplier relationships.
  • Review supplier performance and negotiate prices or supply terms to maintain value, quality, and reliability.
  • Set and review prices for food, beverages, and other café products, taking into account costs, market conditions, customer demand, and target profit margins.
  • Manage staff recruitment, induction, and training to ensure employees meet performance expectations and workplace requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain staff rosters to provide suitable shift coverage while managing labour costs effectively.
  • Supervise and assist front-of-house and kitchen employees while fostering a cooperative and customer-focused team environment.
  • Carry out staff performance reviews, manage disciplinary matters where required, and provide support for employee development.
  • Oversee cash management procedures, including daily cash reconciliation, banking, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure all opening and closing duties are completed properly, including security procedures and end-of-day reporting.
  • Coordinate promotions, seasonal menu offerings, and special events with the kitchen team and business owners.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, health and safety, and employment requirements and maintain preparedness for inspections and audits.
  • Monitor food quality standards, including appropriate storage, preparation, portioning and presentation.
  • Respond to customer enquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and take appropriate steps to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Resolve operational problems and staff concerns promptly, referring matters to management where necessary.
  • Ensure staff follow company policies and maintain a professional, organised, and inclusive workplace.

Required to work for a minimum of 30 hours per week and will be paid between $28 to $35 per hour.

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience or at least a Level 6 qualification.
  • Willingness to work weekends and required shift timings as needed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise team members effectively.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Pay: $28.00 – $35.00 per hour
