Tenei turanga - About the Role:

As a key member of the Residential Services team withing Immigration New Zealand, you will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre (MRRC), providing essential services and support to quota refugees and asylum seekers from arrival through to departure.



This is a dynamic, front-facing role where you'll act as an important point of contact for staff, visitors, and service providers, ensuring smooth coordination of onsite activities. You'll work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to deliver high-quality, responsive services that uphold the care, wellbeing, and rights of those at the centre.

You'll also play a key role in day-to-day operations by supporting and mentoring the team, driving improvements, and helping make sure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.



Daily responsibilities include:

  • Support smooth day-to-day operations at MRRC
  • Provide timely, accurate advice and support to residents
  • Lead operational tasks and support the Team Leader
  • Act as a key contact for staff, visitors, and partner agencies
  • Coordinate services with internal and external stakeholders
  • Drive process improvements and maintain quality standards
  • Mentor and guide team members
  • Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

Skills and Experience Required

  • Strong customer service experience in a front-facing role
  • Experience working in culturally diverse environments, ideally within residential or community services
  • Proven leadership capability - leading by example and mentoring others
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to engage with diverse audiences
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Analytical thinking and sound judgement to resolve challenges effectively
  • A calm, solutions-focused approach in high-pressure or complex situations
  • Confidence in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including external agencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) and willingness to learn MBIE systems
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Police vetting clearance
  • Full, clean driver licence
  • Flexibility and commitment to work shifts on a 24/7 roster
  • Experience with refugee or multicultural communities or knowledge of relevant languages is an advantage
