About API Connects

API Connects is a New Zealand-owned technology consultancy headquartered in Newmarket, Auckland. With over 10 years of experience and 200+ projects delivered, we specialise in integration, cloud, data engineering, DevOps, AI, and platform engineering. We work across both the private and public sectors, partnering with organisations that demand secure, scalable, and high-quality technology solutions. We are an approved supplier on the NZ Government DIA Marketplace and hold vendor-neutral expertise across MuleSoft, Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Snowflake, and more.

We are growing our engineering team and looking for a talented Full Stack Developer with a strong integration focus to join us and deliver high-impact solutions for our clients.

About the Role

This is a permanent, full-time role of fixed 30 hours per week, based in Auckland. You will work across integration and full stack delivery, building APIs and enterprise integrations using MuleSoft, Java, and Node.js, while also developing and maintaining modern frontend applications using React.js.

You may be placed with and perform work for our clients as part of our consultancy engagements, including health-sector integration initiatives across private and public sector organisations. This role requires genuine hands-on commercial experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain API integrations using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, Java (Spring Boot), and Node.js

- Build and maintain frontend applications using React.js, delivering responsive and accessible user interfaces

- Work on health-sector integration projects involving HL7, FHIR, and NZ health standards (HISO)

- Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes, including namespaces, Helm charts, and scaling

- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions

- Utilise ArgoCD or equivalent GitOps tooling for continuous deployment

- Apply AI tools and frameworks to development and automation tasks

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across private and public sector engagements

- Contribute to technical design discussions and code reviews

Required Skills and Experience

- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar) OR at least 4 years of relevant commercial full stack development experience

- Proven commercial experience building APIs and enterprise integrations using MuleSoft (Anypoint Studio, DataWeave, API-led connectivity)

- Commercial backend development experience with Java (Spring Boot or equivalent) and Node.js

- Hands-on commercial experience building frontend applications with React.js

- Experience with health-sector integration, including HL7, FHIR, and NZ health standards

- Solid experience with Kubernetes (deployment, scaling, namespaces, Helm charts)

- Experience with ArgoCD or equivalent GitOps tools

- Practical experience with AI tools and frameworks for development and automation

- Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Skills

- Experience with Azure or AWS cloud platforms

- Exposure to DevSecOps practices and tools (Snyk, JFrog, Datadog, Splunk)

- Knowledge of Docker and container security best practices

- Experience with OAuth2, OIDC, or identity and access management

What We Offer

- $45.00–$50.00 per hour ($70,200–$78,000 per annum, based on fixed 30 hours per week)

- Permanent role, fixed 30 hours per week with flexible scheduling

- Auckland-based, with exposure to diverse private and public sector projects

- Collaborative, experienced team with flat hierarchy and open culture

- Access to cutting-edge technologies in integration, AI, cloud, and DevOps

- Ongoing professional development and technology upskilling
