Full job description

About New Zealand Couriers
New Zealand Couriers have been helping Kiwis get their deliveries sorted since 1964. We are a nationwide team of over 1,100 people and we deliver tens of millions of parcels a year. We are committed, we know our stuff and we’re proud to serve the communities we work in.

About the Role
Reporting to the People & Culture Manager in our Penrose Head Office, the People & Culture Advisor partners closely with leaders across the business to provide practical, trusted HR support and advice.

This is not a typical advisor role. You’ll be part of a small, high-performing People & Culture team of three supporting a workforce of 1,000+ people. That means plenty of variety, genuine responsibility, and the opportunity to build your experience across the full spectrum of HR.

One day you might be coaching a leader through an employment relations matter; the next, supporting recruitment, preparing employment documentation, contributing to a change process, or finding a better way to deliver an existing people process.

It’s a hands-on role in a fast-paced operational environment, working with a diverse range of teams and leaders across the business. If you enjoy variety, like being close to the action, and want a role where you can make a tangible difference, you’ll find plenty of opportunity here.

About You
You’re an experienced HR generalist who enjoys being a trusted first point of contact for leaders and employees. You know how to balance good HR practice with the realities of a busy commercial environment, providing advice that is considered, pragmatic and solutions focused.

You’re a confident communicator who builds trust quickly and develops strong coaching relationships with leaders. You’re comfortable influencing at different levels of an organisation and can navigate complex or time-sensitive situations with sound judgement and professionalism.

You’ll also bring:

  • Strong working knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation
  • Solid employment relations experience, along with exposure to recruitment, employment documentation and change management
  • Experience working in a busy, varied environment — ideally within a multi-site or 24/7 operation
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a commitment to providing a consistent, professional service
  • Confidence working with HRIS and/or ATS platforms - SAP SuccessFactors experience would be an advantage

What we offer

  • Exposure to a broad range of people and culture initiatives
  • Genuine opportunities to grow and develop your HR skillset
  • On-site parking at our Penrose Head Office
  • Work as part of the Freightways group of companies – a NZX top 50 company

If you’re driven to deliver high-quality HR support and want to be part of a dynamic, people-focused organisation, we’d love to hear from you.

The successful applicant must have New Zealand working rights and will need to undergo a criminal history check and pre-employment drug test.

We encourage you to apply early as we will be reviewing applications regularly and may close the advertisement early.
