Full job description

Host | Pou Tiaki – Petone Neighbourhood Hub x 2 roles avilable

  • 2 x permanent part-time opportunities available
  • Competitive pay - we pay the living wage
  • Be part of a welcoming new hub for the Petone community

About the role
We have two permanent part-time opportunities to join our team as a Host | Pou Tiaki, based at the new Petone Neighbourhood Hub at 284 Jackson Street.

Council has recently relocated the Petone Hub from Britannia Street to Jackson Street. The new site is smaller than the previous facility, and the service model has been updated to reflect the new space and the needs of the Petone community.

As a Host | Pou Tiaki, you will be one of the friendly and welcoming faces of the new Petone Hub. You will provide information, support and assistance to customers and community members, helping create a positive experience for everyone who visits.

This role has a strong focus on customer service, library support and day-to-day hub operations. You will help customers access the collection, collect reserved books, return library materials, use photocopying and printing services, access APNK/free WiFi, and use available Chromebooks and digital services.

The role will also support NZ Post services, general enquiries and the smooth running of the hub’s shared spaces. While the role may involve supporting community activities and/or some programming from time to time, the primary focus is on providing welcoming, practical and responsive support to customers in a smaller neighbourhood hub environment.

A key part of this role is making sure everyone who comes into the hub feels cared for, valued and welcomed.

The two roles available are:

Vacancy 1 – 24 hours per week
Monday and Tuesday - 9.00am – 5.30pm and
Saturday - 8.45am - 5.15pm

Vacancy 2 – 16 hours per week
Monday - 9.00am – 5.30pm and
Saturday - 8.45am – 5.15pm

About you
We are looking for community-focused people with a can-do attitude and a genuine commitment to providing excellent customer service.

You will bring strong communication skills, patience, flexibility, and the ability to work alongside a diverse range of people of all ages and backgrounds. You will be comfortable helping customers with enquiries, supporting access to library and hub services, using technology, and learning new systems and processes.

You will enjoy variety, be comfortable working in a smaller site, and understand the importance of creating a calm, welcoming and inclusive environment for the Petone community.

You will also be confident supporting day-to-day services such as customer enquiries, basic library tasks, digital access, photocopying and printing, NZ Post services, and programming or community activities as required.

We are looking for people who embrace biculturalism and cultural diversity, recognise their own strengths and areas for development, and are comfortable asking for guidance when needed.

Knowledge of the Petone community would be desirable but is not essential.
