Dairy Farm Assistant

About the Position

We are currently looking to employ 2 (two) Farm Assistants to become part of our dairy farming team in Ōpōtiki. This role involves supporting the Farm Manager with the daily running of the farm while contributing to high standards of livestock care, farm maintenance, and efficient dairy production.

Main Responsibilities

The successful applicants will undertake a range of farming duties, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting with the daily milking routine and maintaining cleanliness within the dairy shed.
  • Feeding, monitoring, and caring for dairy cattle to promote their health and wellbeing.
  • Identifying and reporting any signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behaviour in livestock.
  • Safely moving, handling, and managing stock around the property.
  • Cleaning and maintaining farm facilities, machinery, and equipment.
  • Carrying out general repairs and routine maintenance tasks across the farm.
  • Operating tractors, farm vehicles, and other equipment where authorised and appropriately trained.
  • Assisting with fencing, pasture management, and other seasonal farm activities.
  • Complying with all workplace health and safety requirements and farm policies.
  • Performing any additional farm-related duties reasonably required by management.

Skills and Attributes

Applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Previous experience in dairy farming or agricultural work is preferred, although training may be provided for suitable candidates.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake manual work in outdoor environments throughout the year.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Dependability, honesty, and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
  • Must be able to work early morning and weekends
  • A current driver's licence is beneficial but not essential.

  • An hourly wage between $26.00 and $28.00, based on experience and capability.
