Job Summary:

5911 FARMS LIMITED is seeking a reliable and motivated Farm Assistant to join our team on a large-scale dairy operation located in Ngatea. The successful candidate will assist in daily farm duties, including milking cows through a 50-bale rotary shed, general stock work, and maintenance tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about dairy farming and looking to grow within the industry

Key Responsibilities:

Farm Operations & Management:

• Assist with general farm maintenance, including weed control and fencing repairs
• Set up and maintain break fencing for grazing management
• Support livestock movement and paddock transitions as directed
• Ensure the farm environment is kept clean and functional

Milking & Dairy Shed Management:

• Perform routine milking operations twice daily
• Clean dairy plant, milking equipment, yard, and milk vat after each milking
• Follow hygiene protocols to maintain a clean and safe milking environment

Animal Health & Welfare:

• Monitor livestock for signs of illness or injury
• Identify and treat animal health issues, including mastitis
• Assist during calving and mating seasons as directed
• Carry out regular livestock checks to ensure wellbeing

Feed & Pasture Management:

• Provide livestock with feed and water as required
• Move livestock between paddocks to ensure access to fresh pasture
• Assist in monitoring pasture quality and availability

Health, Safety & Compliance:

• Follow farm safety protocols and report any hazards
• Maintain high hygiene standards across all work areas
• Participate in regular drug testing and comply with health and safety inspections

Qualifications & Experience:

• Previous experience in dairy farming is preferred but not essential
• Must have class 1 driving license or overseas equivalent
• Must be physically fit and willing to work in all weather conditions
• Willing to work rostered shifts
• Must pass a police background check
• Willing to undergo regular drug testing
• Must be self-motivated and able to follow instructions
• Respectful and tidy in shared accommodation.
