About CoVet
CoVet is an AI copilot application built to assist veterinary professionals by saving them time and allowing them to focus more on animal care—or even get home on time. We are a small, passionate, and agile team with a strong mission to improve the veterinary industry through innovative technology.
About the role
We are seeking a talented Back-end Developer to join CoVet and play a pivotal role in building and scaling our platform. You’ll design, develop, and maintain backend systems on Google Cloud and Firebase, implement server-side logic using Node.js, optimize Firestore data models, and build reliable APIs and integrations.
You’ll also be expected to leverage AI as part of your daily engineering workflow to accelerate development, improve system design, and enhance overall code quality, while ensuring our infrastructure remains secure, efficient, and scalable.
We value developers who take ownership end-to-end, from problem definition to production monitoring, and who are comfortable shipping fast, iterating, and improving continuously.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain backend infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Firebase
- Build robust server-side logic using Node.js and Cloud Functions (serverless architecture)
- Model, manage, and optimize Firestore databases for performance and scalability
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and third-party integrations
- Collaborate closely with developers, QA, product, and design teams to deliver high-quality features end-to-end
- Partner with product to define technical solutions that are scalable, pragmatic, and aligned with business goals
- Own and coordinate deployments, ensuring smooth delivery across backend and frontend dependencies
- Monitor, debug, and improve system performance, reliability, and error handling
- Contribute to improving engineering practices, tooling, and overall development velocity
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in backend development (Node.js preferred)
- Experience with serverless architectures (e.g., Cloud Functions, AWS Lambda, etc.)
- Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), especially Firebase and Firestore
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication patterns, and integration workflows
- Experience with database design, indexing strategies, and performance optimization
- Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken)
- Actively leverages AI tools to design and implement end-to-end features, going beyond isolated tasks to accelerate development and delivery
- Applies strong judgment in using AI to propose solutions, generate documentation, and improve system design and maintainability
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous full-stack experience is a strong plus (not required)
- Experience working with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., Flutter, React)
- Experience building or scaling production systems in a startup environment
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows for serverless applications
- Understanding of security best practices in cloud-based environments
- Experience working with external integrations and APIs at scale
Why Join Us?
- Work in a fast-paced startup environment where your work has a direct impact.
- Opportunity to shape the technical foundation of a growing product.
- Flexible working arrangements and growth opportunities.
- Remote-first culture with flexible working arrangements.
- Opportunity to shape the future of a fast-growing company and make a real impact in the veterinary industry through AI-driven innovation.
We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. Accommodations are available for candidates participating in all aspects of the selection process.
