Here’s a little bit of history:

In the post-war era of the 1940s, you would only find car rental lots in downtown areas. Warren Avis founded Avis in 1946, with three cars at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It established branch operations across the United States over the next few years, becoming the second largest car rental company in
 – more... the country by 1953. By its tenth anniversary in 1956, it had opened its first international offices in Europe, Canada and Mexico.

Looking to the future, we're on a mission to reinvent the rental experience and change perceptions of the car rental industry, through ongoing innovation and digitisation. We aim to have all our fleet connected by 2020, giving new and better ways to rent vehicles and manage fleet.
