Good place to work

Relaxed. Nice team. I found it easy to get along with my co-workers. I liked the flexibility of the job. Was getting paid less than I expected but with the pay increase should be fine.

Only trust yourself.

I loved working for Countdown. When I was a humble assistant making friends with most. I do not recommend management unless you have a strong, confident and determinand nature about you. Often times of low staffing. With a workload for 3 team members falling back on to one person, dept managers being told they're not allowed to replace sick calls. However Often a great whanau vibe on shop floor. A great union as well! If you want to work hard and meet awesome people, yes. Management, run away.

Supporting workplace

Great colleagues, that are reliable and trustworthy team players, strong work ethics, variable shifts, opportunity to grow as an employee. In overall I was very happy to work for this company although the pay wasn’t the best.

Hard work/life balance

Management is mostly fair, however, it is difficult attempting to manage outside activities especially since the shifts are contracted. There is a bit of bias within the crew, and if you are not favoured you will not enjoy your time there.

Would not recommend

Unfortunately this store is full of gossip (including management). There are a few genuinely good people who work there but the overriding culture is gossip and backstabbing. Maybe other Countdown stores have a better work culture but I wouldn't recommend working at the Rangitikei Street, Palmerston North store.
