The deli is always busy.making sure to clean up everything as it causes sickness to the workplace environment.hardest past of the job is to make sure that u use the right techique to pull out hot chicken from oven as it can cause danger, and hazard. I really enjoy the people i wok with, and the customers

Good workplace but very hard work

Pros: great people to work with, decent payCons: Very long hours ( I work about 10 hours each shift ), VERY UNDERSTAFFED, makes it very difficult to work in produce as 1 person at my store works each shift so it’s a huge amount of heavy lifting for the entire shift and lots of multitasking and back and fourths and getting things done, 10 hours seems like a lot of time but it’s not enough to get my workload done all by myself. I come home still stressed about my day at work. They refuse to hire new people and I don’t understand why, They can definitely afford it.

Terrible place to work

Working the the deli was like being back in high school. Favouritism, no positive reinforcement and management that breaks conduct. I worked there for a year I was shocked by the rudeness of the deli management and the levels of wastage produced everyday. We had the option to donate left over food on our scanners not once was it used. Not even for the fresh made sandwiches that got thrown out every night, because no one wanted to pay full price for them after they stopped reducing them. Because they were losing money, Countdown really doesn’t care about its employees.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Bad Management, Ridiculous workloads and little to no benefits other than 5% off shopping

Good

I enjoyed my time working at CD and progressing my career. One downfall is if your store doesn't meet profit target store managers expect you to cut your hours below your contracted hours. There isn't any good benefits either, only 5% off when I was working there. Also if you work in a management role you are expected to work at least 1 weekend day which interferes with your social life if you are young. Opportunities for over time were good. And the pay doesn't add up. Being a 2IC you expect a higher wage then someone scanning food at the till considering all the extra work you do in a days work and your higher standing in the company but with the minimum wage constantly going up and noone else's salary going up to match that it makes it very disheartening, may aswell demote yourself do less work and basically get paid the same

Pros

Nice people to work with

Cons

Weekend work

Productive and good team work

I am happy working for countdown bakery department. Countdown progressive company gave a good opportunities for working bakery department and learning how to make bread and cakes, muffins and also good customer services as well. Always nice and tidy up for bakery department and shop too. Log on and off on time. Be quickly and also be polite for the stuff and the customers everytime. Listen very carefully when people say to me. I would like to move on Auckland next. Keep working bakery department because I will move to Auckland with my family next month.

Pros

Free coffee and tea

Cons

Fun and quirky job

For an all day/overnight job, it was fun and great time for communicating. Considering it happens annually, it’s a quick and subtle job. Best done at home around family members.

Pros

Free food when the job is done

Cons

No cons, just laughs

Nice company, bad management

It's a good place to work if you want to get into management and boss the workers round pretending you know how to do their job and giving them unrealistic tasks.

Pros

Secure job, not bad money

Cons

Bad management, confusing and excessive systems of doing things

First job

This was my first job, I had a lot of fun at this place. I was a grocery assistant, thus my role involved stocking the shelves. Each shift began and ended with a team meeting in the storeroom. My colleagues made this job enjoyable but I eventually had to leave because I was only 15/16 at the time and management would constantly extend my shifts from 10pm finish to 11pm which meant I never got home until after midnight on school nights.

Pros

Great team and environment

Cons

Late hours
