Different depending on locations

it was a good job but i lived in new zealand and this is most likely a very bad comparison to other doubletree jobs in the US, I think they're run differently depending on the management.

Solid workplace with a questionable complaint resolution method

No day is ever the same at the Doubletree. You will encounter many different types of guests, from the polite and respectful, to the rude and dismissive. This is, of course, not the fault of the company, but it is worth mentioning so that one is prepared to deal with such a wide variety. I've definitely been able to build a thicker skin because of it, and management seems to always be there to help if things get heated. One of the issues I have with the company is the lack of discipline in mistakes. There have been many times where I have had to take the heat for someone else's mistakes or false promises. Despite bringing it up to the upper levels, nothing seems to be done. Additionally, those same supervisors who instruct us to not make said mistakes, end up doing it themselves. It seems very hypocritical and overall only hurts my opinion of how these types of things are handled.Overall, I'd say the workplace is fairly laid back, although when the hotel is busy, you'll feel the effects. I'd recommend working here if you've got a thick skin and are level headed when it comes to busy times. However, be prepared to bear the weight of other's mistakes and have your complaints be a whisper in the wind.

Pros

Flexible schedules, decent pay, free cookies!

Cons

Poor handling of employee mistakes, lack of communication between departments, occasional heavy load due to understaffing

No growth and poor morale

During my time at Doubletree by Hilton Breckenridge, I was not given the necessary tools or access to tools that would make my job more fulfilling or less stressful. Management was lax, uncaring, and unproductive. Quite I few times I encountered microaggressions and overt discrimination as an immigrant. I would not recommend this job for anyone who isn't seeking any job in top management.

Pros

Free lunches, got an opportunity to meet and work with people from all over the world.

Cons

Nepostic management, Short breaks, no support, extremely stressful, no room for growth, poor management, discriminatory..

Management doesn’t care about employees. The pay is from the 90’s and the healthcare is horrible

Doubletree by Hilton in Galveston is full of mold, dirty place to work. No air conditioning in kitchen so it’s about 110 degrees in there. Employees are allowed to talk to supervisors any way they want and upper management doesn’t care.

Pros

Nothing really

Cons

No breaks, horrible healthcare, no support from upper management

Excellent workplace

Overall, the DoubleTree kitchen is an excellent place to work. When I started there the Chef at the time gave me the chance to prove myself seeing as I had no prior cooking experience (I was a cop for over 10 years prior). He really took me under his wing and showed me the ropes when it came to working the line in a medium volume, causal fine-dining establishment. The only reason I left was due to the pandemic. When the opportunity arose to come back things were not the same. The chef and most of the old staff had left or been reduced and the kitchen was left to be run by 1 cook and no dishwasher. It was nearly impossible to wash dishes after every plate served while still maintaining expedient ticket times with a staff of one. I don't blame the restaurant... Things changed with the pandemic and adapting has been the key. Unfortunately, I'm not with the DoubleTree any longer but I wish them, and their staff, the best of luck with their future business.

Pros

Family meal, employee lounge, full benefits

Work place

This place of work has been by far the toughest to work at. The reason being is that management plays favorites and the employees love to exclude helping other's who dont look like them and they neglect to get their jobs done correctly and they never received any corrections when complaints have been made and yes i am speaking of housekeeping! On top of that they expect you to perform jobs outside of the job your being poorly paid to do.

Pros

Short brakes and benefits

Teamwork

I really enjoyed working at the doubletree. I learned new skills at the job . The only thing is that management should explain at your interview that in the slow times your hours might it cut.

Decent place

The work and guests were ok. Housekeeping was not the best so front desk had to overcompensate for their lacking. Pay was not the greatest for the amount of hours you work

Management is a joke.

If you aren’t making money for them they don’t care about you. If you’re struggling expect to be fired. You also rarely ever get trained correctly then it’s on you when you keep messing up. The management is a complete joke and needs to completely change.

Pros

None

Cons

Over worked & under paid.

Depends on the Department

How a company runs is strictly dependent on the managers, and every department being ran by different management, it really depends. Over all my experience with this company has been the best that I have had with a company in the many years that I have worked. Sure there are odds and ends that could be taken care of, but no company is perfect. Out of the many Hilton properties I have worked at (5) this was by far the best organized and staffed of them all. If I didn't have to move out of state I would be more than happy to work for this company again. I have heard horror stories about other departments but in reality I am not too sure if it was true, or just an employee who messed up trying to spread lies, but it's always good to keep an eye out I suppise.

Pros

Free lunch, growth from within the company, staff that understand personal life, request off dates are given if asked for at appropriate time

Cons

will under pay you if you let them, only do what is asked of you because going above and beyond will get you nowhere

Really good on OT and giving you days off in case of emergencies

I'm happy where I'm at. But wish we had 401k and better medical insurance. Management sometimes don't listen to us when we trying to fix the machine. But we get through and end up having a good day

Pros

Lot of OT

Cons

Pay

Staff are worked hard for low compensation

I love interacting with and caring for my guest. I worked at this hotel for almost a decade and saw many different GMs and also different Directors and managers in my department. Each new director came in and as the first task they would cut staff pay to show the owners they could reduce spending. After almost a decade with the company I had to resign after my 4th pay cut even though I love the hotel and all the staff feels like family. I am deeply saddened now when I walk around the hotel property and see the current state of things. I truly hope and pray they will bounce back to the warm loving place we once were.

Pros

Free lunch, good insurance

Cons

Management will lie to your face, cut pay at will

Good benefits. Not always staffed appropriately. Nice atmosphere and coworkers. The clientele would vary a lot depending on conventions and what was happening in town, some times were better than others monetarily

Pros

Good benefits

Cons

Short staffed quite a bit
