Great company to work for.
I have learned a lot from the people working at Downer, in the technical division.
I had to leave the company due to my work visa that expired.

Average workplace
Contract/Renewals Engineer (Former Employee) - Taupo, Waikato - 12 April 2020
It was just a working environment that didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel a part of the team. That doesn’t mean the whole company is like that but the branch I was working from felt like that

A real Downer
Traffic Controller and Labourer (Temp) (Former Employee) - Wellington - 3 April 2020
Downers dont hire direct instead to work there you must go via a labour hire firm. They treat their labour hire staffers badly. Anything from making them work up to 13-15 hour days on lollypop duty without a toilet for miles and no known finish times (really hard if youve got kids/pets to pick up from care and the care places shut at 6pm while youre still at work) to promising them full time work after 90 days only then to throw them under a bus after one week for absolutely no reason at all (or some invented reason). Id steer well clear of downer because thats exactly what they are.

Productive place
Telecommunications Technician (Former Employee) - Christchurch - 19 March 2020
good place to work and has the potential for excellent career development as it works in many industries. After working so many years for Downer I felt like part of the family

passive and stressfull
Material Supply Chain Administrator (Current Employee) - Auckland City, Auckland - 10 March 2020
work is good but the people in the management is somehow stressfull, they will check every time you stand from your desk, and thy have a checklist how long have you gone.
They will capture your idle time and will notify you if you are using your cellphone.
no personal call allowed

Poor management, lack of support
Project Manager (Current Employee) - New Zealand - 14 December 2019
Company is growing too fast and overloading staff with poor management and a lack of support.
People are put in positions they cannot succeed in and left with no support.

Team Leader Garden's (Current Employee) - Levin, Manawatu-Wanganui - 16 October 2019
I really enjoyed working for downer as a company they look after there staff well. Have in house training which is benifit all. Great company culture I would definitely work for them again. Job security well my position was made redundant after loosing one of their contracts which they had to do. They had great support to help staff gain employment elsewhere which I was very impressed with
