Toxic workplace, bullying and awful management

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
A job that would be good if it weren't for the petty management. Bullying and harassment, lazy coworkers and pathetic management. The DCC is known for all of this but the higher ups don't care, they are content with the cesspool of a work environment they have created and encourage. Wouldn't recommend for sanity only recommend for the living wage if you can cope with the feeling of a day filled with nothing but the feeling of bashing your head against a wall dealing with these people.

off task, gossipy

I've walked in to the a certain department and had them roll their eyes at me, have had them whispering, have heard them talking about other people in the dcc too. This team is supposed to be there to help staff. There is a lot of backstabbing and egos. My team is ok for the most part but it's hard walking on egg shells all the time.

toxic, stressful, exhausting

The DCC is a place where some managers are able to yell and swear at staff, and bully people. Some of the managers are never there. When you try and raise a concern you just get told your concern isn't relevant. I am trying to find a new job now because it's so horrible coming to work each day.

pay is good

the behaviour from managers.

If you want to be bullied, DCC is the place to go

If you want to be the bully, DCC is also the place to go as noone will stop you. They do have a whistle blower policy, but who is brave enough to use it.

Inappropriate behaviour from the top down.

Soul destroying - dysfunctional and bully culture

The negatives outweigh the positives I'm afraid. The leadership is dysfunctional. Some of the senior managers threaten and intimidate to get their way. Unprofessional leaders. The money is good but career progression isn't really available - flat structures and people don't leave (team and profession dependent). If you want to be surrounded by bullies and lazy colleagues and pick up their slack with no reward or recognition then the dunedin city council is the place to go.

salary is good, cushy job if you want it to be

bullying, dysfunctional, incompetence.

Bullying, toxic culture and dysfunctional leadership

There is so much bullying and a lot of it starts with the managers and senior leaders. There is a lack of transparency and recruitment to positions is on a 'who you know' basis. Depending on who you are, there might not even be a recruitment process!! I have witnessed bullying from very senior people but people are too scared to say anything and if they do they 'disappear'. Lazy people get celebrated and incompetence doesnt seem to matter either.

varied work, interesting work

bullying, dysfunctional leadership, toxic bullying culture, stressful
