No recognition of hard work no internal progression as promised
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee) –  Livingston, West Lothian3 July 2019
Not a great experience overall. Wages were decent but it seems to be the only thing holding folk back.
Bring in externals rather than promoting from within which is said at interview stage.
Pros
Wages
Cons
Long hours, asked to work without pay, having to pay for your own uniform if it store bar the t-shirts

Depressing call centre
Customer Service Administrator (Former Employee) –  Livingston, West Lothian23 October 2018
I worked in the customer service call center for just under a year, the only reason I stayed for so long was because the salary was better than anywhere else. A typical shift was sitting on the phone for 8 hours a day, while answering emails in any "spare time". You were not allowed to go on break to do anything without getting shouted at to get back on the phone and there were favorites among the management who would get time off the phone to do other work. The managment don't care about you, until you hand in your notice, that is the only time I was ever shown any appreciation was when I told them I was leaving. The shifts are not consistent and you never know the next weeks rota in advance. I do think Lidl are a great company to work for, however this department and their management team are not a good example of that.
Pros
Good salary
Cons
Bad management

Toxic Environment.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Livingston, West Lothian9 August 2018
A typical days work involves answering phone calls to abusive customers all day as well as being given a list of customer emails to respond to - this isn't completed normally due to the high amount of calls. The department expects so much from you even when you try your absolute best. I have never worked in an environment where as soon as you walk into the building the life is completely drained out of you to the point it is not healthy. If you are looking to be in a workplace where you can speak to other colleagues and have a chilled environment - this job is not for you. If you speak to another colleague, you are moaned at by management for chatting resulting in you sitting in absolute silence only answering phone calls. If you go on break to go to the toilet or make a cup of tea - you are moaned at by management for being longer that 5 minutes.
Management are poor. For some unknown reason the management are extremely rude to you. They try to walk all over you and speak to you like you are so beneath them and make you feel incredibly small. It is not a typical office environment - those who were one new starters come in chirpy and happy not knowing within a few months they will be brought down so much to the point they have to leave - staff turnover is VERY high, for every 5 new starts 1 is left by then end of the month. With the Lidl Customer Service office, it is ran completely different to the other offices in Lidl - it is outdated. With customers, your responses by email are very basic and have to be professional. If a customer emails or calls being very humorous, your
more... response is standard and funny email responses are not allowed. In this day and age it is just very out of date and boring.

Overall I would never recommend this job to anyone. Between management and the abusive customers - it is not healthy to be in such a toxic environment.

Fast and Furious
Temp Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Livingston13 June 2018
Dealing with emails and calls
You'd start on an email, read two lines then a call comes in.
You deal with the call, from start to finish, right through to sending out postal vouchers then go back to try to read the email again, You'd get two lines read and another call comes in, you deal with the call from start to finish then attempt the email again......You get the idea.
All the while that this is happening, you have someone in the background shouting " there's 10 in the queue"
High pressured environment, little scope for dealing with complaints properly.
Conveyor belt of calls and emails.
No canteen just the usual microwave and kettle.
Nowhere to get lunch due to location.
Pros
mmmmmmh im trying to think of some
Cons
Long hours, high pressured, noisy
