Disappointing
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Bridgend, Bridgend9 December 2019
You get minimal training on an ipad, a workload that is near enough impossible to do to a decent standard, and sometimes 12 hour days with a 30 min break. And don't think you are finishing on time on the closing shifts. You have to stay until everything is caught up on. Could be half hour, could be two or three, who knows. If you don't, you "aren't a team player" or are "letting everyone down by being selfish"

Very Dull
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Llanelli4 December 2019
A very dull job. Extensive pressure to finish tasks, especially those early in the morning, quickly, even when you've just started. You're most likely to be stuck in till the whole time, for even 10 hour shifts. Managers are swayed by favouritism, thus give those they like earlier, or more enjoyable jobs. Managers who were hired because they had to be, who don't think about how they act. Don't recommend.

Placement Scheme/ Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Enfield2 December 2019
If you are willing to keep your head down, listen to instructions (whether from head office or boss, it's really like one big digestive system) then you'll do great and make a lot of money

there is alot that needs improving on when it comes to the running of the store as well as the respect that is given to customer assistants.

more opportunities to progress, need to nurture those that want to progress,
give them different tasks when they come in so day is different, rather then let them feel they are stuck doing the same thing

Customer assistant (Former Employee) –  Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex28 November 2019
Managers are often not very helpful and you are expected to keep up with a heavy work load with little effective training. However the pay is fair and benefits are good. And the ability to progress through to being a store manager without a degree is goo

Not a terrible place to work if you have decent management. Prepare to work hard every shift. Usually understaffed so you are trying to do many things at once but you get used to it and the shifts go in quickly.

You have to work fast all the time. If not you get told off all the time.
They say after probation you get 10 pound per hour but its a bull ………
and they don't care if you are sick. you get 10 hours a week and they say they give you more hours im waiting 2 months ago to get more hours lol
and they are a liar

good work place to work for.
Customer Sales Assistant (Former Employee) –  Wisbech14 November 2019
Lidl's is a great place to work for people and management are great people to work for.
a typical work day at Lidl's is very busy. but you never doing the same job always swapping and changing ie. could be on till's for a couple of hours then be on shop floor.
I learned a lot customer service, cash handling. I was non food coordinator for the last 6 months before moving job's.
management are brilliant always willing to help if you have a problem.
hardest part of the job is night times because that's when thieves are mainly doing what they do best and Lidl's doesn't have any security guards.

Customer Assistant (Current Employee) –  Poundland, UK29 October 2019
Decent pay for a retail job. No set working days, you can be put to work on any day of the week. no extra pay for weekend. The work load would be alot more than any of the main supermarkets. terrible shift patterns. shifts can range starting from 5am and other shifts you can finish at 11pm and during a regular 10 hour shift, you only get half an hour break

Most unethical company going
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire27 October 2019
Horrible company to work for, no care for staff well being in the slightest, looking back I regret working here for as long as I did. Management ran off bullying most of the time. Breaks are ridiculous, half an hour even for 10 hour shifts, most shifts wouldn’t get a break until after 7 hours of working. The way mystery shopper is run is horrible, works by hiding items and calling out staff and embarrassing them in front of a line of people and all other colleagues if you miss the slightest thing..baring in mind they make it as hard as they can or they wouldn’t have a job I guess... this is so nasty and unprofessional from an ethical point of view. The staff work their best for the company, they’re the wrong people to be targeting. Didn’t get told shifts until the week before making any form of a social life impossible. Wasn’t given contracted hours as store was trying to cut back on expenses which they did through staffs wages. Management was absolutely horrendous. Working at Lidl used to almost seem ‘worth it’ for putting up with being treated horribly simply for the wage, but even this isn’t any more attractive than other employees anymore. I genuinely think (and would hope) that the staff from regional managerial roles and above honestly have no idea how badly staff are actually being treated in their stores. This really needs to be improved on, it’s no wonder so many employees leave following a negative experience.

A challenging pace in which you are expected to work, to keep above competition. Leaves you with little time for yourself outside of work. Well paid in return.

horrendous management and work:staff ratio. Management is lacking in training and there are simply not enough bodies on the shop at one time to handle tasks and tills.

CUSTOMER ASSISTANT (Former Employee) –  Antrim, County Antrim4 October 2019
There was no end to shifts. I would be kept on without a choice to get work done. Long 12+ hour shifts with a 20 minute break the whole day. Luckily the pay made it bearable. The work is hard and fast-paced but the days go in quickly as you are always running around doing something.
