Understaffed
Crew member (Former Employee) - Otara, Auckland - 16 January 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedBad management always understaffed and the managers always felt lazy and passed on work to anyone even if they're busy. It takes more than 2.5 hours to get a single break
Pros
Discount on food
Cons
Very busy

sad and dingey
til, cook, dishwasher, cleaner (Former Employee) - Auckland - 30 September 2022
was not a good place to work. lovely team members and creepy managers. pay sucks and hours were very skeleton, giving you very little shifts so they gain more money out of cheating workers. maybe other locations, branches are great but not the one i worked for.
Pros
liked my team members
Cons
creepy managers. barely any hours to work, very little money.

A good start but shouldn’t be permanent
Crew Trainer (Current Employee) - Hamilton, Waikato - 15 August 2022
I’ve been here for almost 2 years. It’s a good first job but you gotta be able to handle stress. I’m a CT/Barista & you will have to work with and serve the worst people in the entire planet. Sometimes it’s a good shift but do not stay here for the long run. Hustle & leave once you’re financially stable. BUT rostering is good. Flexible for teenagers.

Good first job
Crew Member (Former Employee) - Avondale, Auckland - 14 August 2022
It's a good first job for anyone, it teaches you so many lessons that will be so critical in the wider workforce. It is a fast paced environment that can be stressful but certainly so useful. It offers a variety of skills from the kitchen to front counter working the til,. I worked with many of my high school friends which made the working environment fun. Management were really nice at my restaurant cannot really speak for others. It also taught me communication skills which has been so useful.

Fast Paced
Crew Trainer / Barista (Former Employee) - Royal Oak, Auckland - 28 July 2022
Working here was fun and easy if you had good work mates. The job itself can be pretty overwhelming at first but if trained properly was easy enough. You got the hang of it the more shifts you worked and being able to communicate makes the work load flow much easier.
Pros
People
Cons
Can be stressful/overwhelming at times

Jobs at McDonald's
Busy and stressful
Crew Member (Former Employee) - Will not disclose - 12 July 2022
Working at McDonald’s is what everyone would expect it to be like. Good for a first time job but staying there for a long time will drive you crazy. Customers are rude and entitled and the management micro manages. Would not recommend this job, The stress especially when understaffed is traumatic. It has a high turnover rate for a reason.

An okay work place
Crew Member (Former Employee) - Christchurch, Canterbury - 5 July 2022
Work was pretty okay, not always the most nicest environment to work with. can be majorly stressful most days but the co-workers made it more enjoyable.

Productive workplace and great for those who are new to the working industry/wanting an easy part time job
Crew Member (Former Employee) - New Zealand - 4 July 2022
It's a fast paced resturant so you learn different stations quickly. Hardest part of the job was having managers who didn't know how to run their shift smoothly which stresses everyone else. Other than that you gain skills such as team work, working with customers and interacting with other coworkers
Pros
Meeting new people
Cons
Being short-staffed

Good as a first job or teen job
Crew Member (Current Employee) - Auckland Central, Auckland - 3 July 2022
Overall it’s ok lots of people call in sick so the managers will ask you to stay on (you can reject) pretty much paid at minimum wage but get a few cents pay rise after 6 and 12 months.

Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Anderson's Bay, Otago - 17 June 2022
never stops at this place and no time to slack off...keeps you on your toes. you must like people from all walks of life. sometimes you end up doing different jobs , as it pays to be flexible.

Standard job!
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Pukekohe, Auckland - 7 June 2022
Fast paced environment. Lots of training and easy to work your way up. Got enough hours which was good. Don’t really like the smell of McDonald’s anymore.

fast paced but fun depending whos on shift
Crew Member (Former Employee) - Paraparaumu, Wellington - 3 June 2022
burgers were easy to make and once you learned how to make them a shift was much easier as you dont have to focus on the burgers, friday nights and weekend nights sucked because of huge orders with burger modifications but the people there were pretty cool
Pros
fairly simple work
Cons
stressful when busy, have to pay for food, management could be better

fun team.
Cons
had to pay for meals

Fun workplace, but bad shifts
Crew Member (Current Employee) - Wairau Park, Auckland - 19 April 2022
The only good reason for working here is that the people (except for some managers) don't get paid enough compared to other minimum wage jobs such as supermarkets.
Pros
Good friendships
Cons
Long Hours

Meh
Crew Member (Current Employee) - Auckland - 12 April 2022
It is a really stressful job, cool colleagues can make it manageable. Busy and fast based. Crews get worked the most and managers always take the good spots, making the crew work at the most stressful location for sometimes their whole entire shift. At maccas there's always someone getting on another person's butt. Manager to crew, Boss to managers, Supervistor's to managers. Which makes it sometimes a toxic work environment when it feels like you're getting slaved away for basic pay.
Pros
Can meet cool people including managers, half price on select items?
Cons
Having to throw away perfectly fine food. Management, Busy and fast paced. Stressful

genuinely don't work here
Crew Member (Current Employee) - Gisborne - 6 April 2022
i have been messed around time and time again by this store, i have been told that i would have a permanent set roster after months of working here. they have COMPLETELY cut my shifts to one a week, despite being part time. i get it that i am older, and that child labour is cheaper, but it is beyond a joke when you are expected to be at their every beck and whim and to be in the store at less than a moment's notice. ive been called in for an 8hr+ shift on 30 minutes notice just to cover someone. but the MOMENT i ask to get a proper roster, it's crickets. it's not worth the mental, and physical pain of being rostered on fries for the first 6 months of your employment, just to then be messed around by poor management.
Pros
discounted food i guess
Cons
poor management and poorly done rosters
