On shift pattern you sacrifice many personal things, but are remunerated for this. Work is hot and dangerous, and fast paced. Safety is very important and management stress this alot
Pros
Good wage
Cons
Sacrifice weekends, public holidays, unsocial sleep patterns

Nz steel is a good place to work due to its culture. Health and safety. Above all it's the people who are so friendly and helpful.
Also feel good while you enjoy your work.

NZ Steel was once a fun enjoyable and rewarding place to work, having said that over the last few years downhill it has gone, from supervisors up seem only concerned with there own little bubbles, without caring about the ramifications downstream, not to mention the complete lack of involvement of staff on the ground level, the current culture is of pure us and them also with total disregard to health, safety is only of concern after something happens at which time there is a knee jerk reaction that sometimes creates more of a hazard, but hey, at least they ticked the box.
Pros
Fair income, good time off
Cons
Management in a bubble

A very busy but enjoyable environment.
NZ Steel has always been very good with training and upskilling their employees.

Over the years I was very grateful for the opportunities and encouragement I received from Management and colleagues.

Obviously a top safety conscious environment and there was a dedicated and caring culture for peoples health, wellbeing and safety.

Everyone encouraged to look out for each other and audit regularly to ensure everyone went home safely at the end of the day.

The location obviously a bit far south but always going against the Auckland traffic.

The most enjoyable part of the job were the people. I had the opportunity to work in many different departments which helped me gain a wide network of valuable contacts and a wealth of experience companywide.

Would recommend New Zealand Steel as a great place to work.
