Colleagues were great

Collaborative environment with colleagues, able to work remotely, no career paths ever discussed by upper management. A lot of favoritism and not all team members treated fairly.

Pros

co-workers were great

Cons

favoritism, workload not distributed evenly to the team, micromanagement, too many meetings

Productive, Fast Paced Workplace

Come here prepared to work hard, very hard for long hours - typical Big 4 environment. They'll work you very hard as an associate for several years with the carrot dangling to become a manager. No doubt PwC looks good on your resume so you may want to just suck it up 1-2 years before moving on.

Work was fine but always a last minute assignment. They encouraged productivity but didn't sell enough work.

There was at least 80% travel but one never knew if they would have a job for long. They had large lay-offs every few months. Work culture was stressful as you were always trying to increase your productivity. And, if the partner did not sell the work, your productivity was zero.

Good place to work and learn. Especially when starting out in your career

At PwC, work moves at a very rapid pace. In the early days, you are almost always learning new things everyday. From research techniques to business analysis to report writing and slides development.

Great first company to work for, not a great place to meet people

The training and resources provided by PwC is pretty unbeatable for a first job. Lots of exposure to different types of businesses and projects ensures continuous growth. You will be leading meetings within the first few months of joining. Lots of autonomy in terms of HOW you get your work done (work from home, flexible hours), but almost no autonomy in terms of WHAT you get to work on. Very heavy travel, but very generous travel budget (e.g. $100/day for food). Opportunities for international travel. Not a great place to meet people if you're in a new city as you will be working on projects with people from all over the country/world. Job security is almost guaranteed, however promotion is not. They won't fire you, but instead they just won't promote you. Promotion is also hardly influenced by merits for staff, it's all metrics. Even if you are a star you will still have to wait 3 yrs for promotion.

Pros

Opportunity to travel, training, great office (if you ever make it in), work from home, good benefits

Cons

long hours sometimes, promotions only every 3 years, very little say in what projects you are assigned to

Fast-paced working environment with room to growth however very limited work-life balance

The job has a steep learning curve and definitely has a lot of room for growth. However, the long audit hours and high stress environment are definitely a burden.

General Summary

I just started at PwC in December and my major issue is the lack of work-life balance they have. Although managements have tried to put in place measures to mitigate this, it still is not effective. Compensation is below par when compared to other advisory firms because it is traditionally an accounting firm. However, the company has a strong brand name.

Demanding and rewarding

The firm rewards you fairly for your work, but there are times where the demand is 24/7. When the firm sells more work than it can handle, they don't hire additional headcount and can thrust you into roles you don't have much experience in.

Productive work life balance

The Company is a very good company to work for and having on your CV. The downside to it was that there was no work/life balance. Had to work so many overtime and it was an issue if you wanted to take the time off. We were a family and helped each other when we could.

Pros

Working as a team supporting each other

Cons

A lot of overtime
