Nice place to build up team working skills and make friends

A typical day starts with a visit to client office, reveiw General ledger lines, ensure they are accurately posted and in line with the required accounting standards, make selections on items or samples to test based on materiality, risk or both, request for support documents to corroborate the expense or income. For controls, obtain clients control system review it against the previous years to note any changes, inquire if and why there are changes. Perform a walk-through of the clients control system to validate that they do exist and are actively adhered. report any control lapses and make recommendations on how to mitigate them. Being an auditor, you learn to be more assertive, learn time management, work and manage different personalities. You move around different clients and locations and typically make friends and see new places, have recreational activities to bond with team members. Moving around can sometimes affect work/life balance

Pros

PwC is a productive and fun place to work.

Working with different teams and people of diverse backgrounds opens one up to various ideas that would otherwise be out of reach or even taken so long to arrive at. A typical day at work sees you harnessing the team strength while pursuing individual deliverable and target. I learned how to set SMART objectives daily and for each project which helped me in my personal endeavours as well. Management makes staff matters top priority because the company views its staff as its greatest asset. All that is needed is done to ensure comfortable workplace is attained for the staff. This is in addition to an objective Performance feedback and appraisal system in which each staff is expected to appraise him/herself before the line Manager gives his/her own review. The hardest part of the job is working smart and hard to meet lofty objectives one has set for oneself. These objectives usually seem like tall orders and can only be achieved by relying on ones knowledge and application of the firm's soft tools and methodologies, resources and connecting with other staff members beyond the team who have the needed knowledge and skills. It also requires that one is widely-read (on relevant compliance documents and trending discussions on efficiency and effectiveness at work). The most enjoyable part of the job is the team-bonding, business unit meting where individual and team debacles are thrashed out and solutions proffered. The deep thinking culture engendered in individuals also makes working in PwC interesting.

Pros

Leave and year-end bonuses, flexible work hours.

Cons

Long hours.

Great atmosphere, enabling culture

Working with PwC was a great experience, both in terms of the types of projects I was able to participate and the quality of the people I was surrounded with. One of my greatest achievements as a Strategy Consultant was leading the Nigerian component of a seven-country healthcare study designed to identify investment candidates for an international financial institution.

Productive place to work with limitless opportunities to learn

PwC is one of the best places to work or start a fulfilling career. A typical work day at a client sees you interacting with various levels of staff at your client from the low level staff to senior management. The global culture is very balanced and there is respect for the individual. I have learnt to work with teams and to have excellent interpersonal skills amongst other technical know how. Top management is very open and accessible. The people you work with are one of the best and brightest. Working in teams affords a daily opportunity to learn and coach others. The hardest part of the job would be when you have tight deadlines and have to work overnight but then that is easily balanced out by the various work/life balance initiatives. The most enjoyable part of the job is that you have varied experience working on different clients, projects and locations. Working hours is also flexible and helps to balance the home front.
