Westpac is a fantastic company to work for. I found the team to be motivational. There were many opportunities for growth and personal development. Strong mission and strategy. I look forward to working with Westpac again in the future.

Fun workplace with plenty of opportunity to succeed
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Westpac. I found the management to be supportive and helpful and my roles rewarding. I believe that the culture of the organisation could be improved by becoming more competitive which I also think could be achieved without sacrificing what makes the organisation great.
Pros
Good benefits, flexible working
Cons
The organisation does not have a competitive culture.

Good vibe overall
The organisation has a culture of bullying and blame that is masked by calling it "performance management". Supportive of "big personalities" it's about ego rather than quality work.

While they talk bit about diversity, the Women in Leadership programme isn't about balance it's about promoting women - to the point that in some business units the males in leadership amount to less than 20% (this would not be tolerated if it were women with such a small percentage).

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Auckland Central, Auckland3 September 2017
Worked with some awesome people who love their jobs but no help from upper ranks.
Stress levels can reach an all time high for not only the branch staff members but also the in branch managers.
Learned that you pretty much train yourself to get up to scratch to where everyone else is but the staff are lovely and are willing to help you become better.

Hardest part of the job would be starting without any formal training dealing with snotty customers.

Most enjoyable part was meeting and working with some really exceptional people from all walks of life.
Pros
People & salary
Cons
No proper training, high demand 99% of the time

Senior Accounts Clerk (Former Employee) –  CBD Auckland15 August 2017
days were spent checking the incoming/outgoing expenses, checking on clients credit ratings and chasing up bad debts. Weekly profit and loss accounts were produced and then the monthly statements. A lot of time was spent ensuring travel agents had correctly charged clients, and gst returns filled in daily.
Pros
cheap travel perks

Bullies paradise. loved my job but management constantly undermining staff. New Manager came along and did not know anything about the workload. Lots of talk about development but I guess that must be for managers that don't actually know anything about the job.

Great Colleagues, limited opportunity for progression
Customer Banking Consultant (Current Employee) –  Auckland Central, Auckland1 December 2016
Great team to work with, limited opportunities as foot traffic is light. Management has no lending or frontline experience thus making it a challenge to get sound advice or support. Alot of self learning is expected and cold outbound calling.
Pros
Small personable team
Cons
limited opportunities, lack of support in branch

Supportive + Challenging
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Auckland, Auckland11 November 2016
The position had a varied and holistic support network which was very beneficial sure to the variety of the issues that the position faced. Customers have any and every question waiting to beep through to your phone. Everything from "what's the time/my balance?" to walking people through online banking.

I enjoyed the job - it was challenging. The hardest part is probably the level of stress. You need to have coping mechanisms and a healthy lifestyle outside of the office.

Most enjoyable part was probably the co-workers. We all helped each other out with difficult issues and it definitely felt as though we were a part of a cohesive team.
Pros
Good salary, great co-workers
Cons
Shift work can involve a lot of early and late starts intermixed.

Operational support officer (Former Employee) –  Auckland, Auckland14 April 2016
Co workers were all very nice. Awesome working environment. Learnt more computer skills. Work required a lot of training, however, the training was very good at Westpac. The hardest part of the job was avoiding making any mistakes especially with customers personal and financial details. The most enjoyable part of the job was outbound calls on the phone with customers, and being able to answer customers questions about any inquiries.
Pros
Free lunches
Cons
Long hours, too quiet sometimes

Good office atmosphere, dealing with internal and external clients. Great place to learn about the different processes in back office banking.

The company has a strong commitment to community, being involved with organisations such as the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Red Sock Day, Beach cleanups and a host of other beneficial programs.

Colleagues are always positive and the employer offers a diverse range of benefits for staff members.
